What where the angels painting and repairing? This really is getting interesting now.
Sorry...I forgot the smiley face. I'll give you two now, instead. :D :D
That's more like it! You had me worried for a while. I thought there might be an empty bed in some asylum somewhere!

I thought angels had wings? What do they need ladders for?
Painting, and small repairs.

Re: "IF embryos are people."

And have any of those things happened in such a way as to prove there is a God? What would be an example of an incident that has happened that proves there is a God? That's a question you're going to have to answer for yourself, Gary. Because even if I told you I'd seen angels descending on ladders...

Re: "IF embryos are people."

The Theist, in contrast, only needs one instance of genuine God-reality in order to justify belief. One genuine creation of any kind, one genuine miracle, one genuine revelation, one actual prayer answered, one actual moral precept, one incarnation, even one private and personal experience of God -...

I know there is no supernatural aspect to reality.
Interesting. How do you know that?
He probably knows it the same way you seem to claim to know all sort of things about God.

In fact, even sad and depressed people think it is.
People commit suicide IC. Not everyone thinks the way you do.

Re: "What should be the criteria for personhood?"

As it currently stands, not all babies are adopted. Healthy infants are "flying off the shelves." They can't get enough. So what are we supposed to do with the unhealthy ones, let them suck up the misery? And death, as the alternative, is not in the interest of any child. How can you be so sure? We...

Re: "What should be the criteria for personhood?"

But even in extremis, the woman is not stuck: she has always got the more moral option of adoption. As it currently stands, not all babies are adopted. Take away the right to an abortion and you'll probably multiply the number of unadopted children significantly. Is it better to grow up in squalor ...

Re: "What should be the criteria for personhood?"

Or maybe they aren't "people". You'd need to prove that, before killing any. Then you could be strapping millions of reluctant people with parenthood, potentially contributing to human misery. Not a bit. Every woman has the right to her own body...meaning she has the right to choose suitable partne...

(Please note: the stats on abortions will vary depending on your information source. Frankly: I don't think, at this point, anyone knows how many abortions are performed globally, or at what point in pregnancy most abortions occur.)
We're talking about LEGAL abortions. There is data on that.

Re: "What should be the criteria for personhood?"

Are embryos "persons"? It seems like "erring on the side of caution" could also apply to the opposite (imposing parenthood on people who don't want to be). Perhaps it is better to "err on the side of caution" and allow people to continue to have abortions so long as they are performed at a relative...

Re: "What should be the criteria for personhood?"

Yep. That's what I've been askin', over and over, across multiple threads. If what a pregnant woman carries is just meat, then what happens to that meat is her decision. If what a pregnant woman carries is a person, then -- no -- she doesn't have carte blanche. So: seems to me, until 'we' arrive at...

Re: How does one answer Schopenhauer’s critique of the cosmological argument ?

And so it begs the question again: How would you detect any such thing, and if you can't how would you ever come to identify it, or talk about it? If you go back to my response to the OP, that's more or less what I said. How can we even talk about noumena? How do we know that there are aspects to t...

Phenomenon.
Then your conception of "noumenon" is the same as saying "empirically inconsequential".
That is a criticism which has been leveled against Kant. So you may be right.
