Re: get serious

I'm a better thinker than most of their authors ...

Aaah, now I understand what this is about. Why not come out and say what you mean? : "If Philosophy Now was serious about philosophy they'd be seeking contributions from me."

My answer would still be same.

Re: get serious

The only thing higher about the standards used to choose their posts is in an academic sense. I can't even parse this sentence. I have no idea what it is trying to say. If you were hoping to catch the eye of the magazine's talent scouts as an author with "legitimacy", I think you need to raise your...

Re: get serious

But I have said nothing about a more academic standard. It's like you are arguing with yourself. Whatever turns you on, I guess.

Re: get serious

Again, I believe I have a reasonable grasp of what "meaningful" means in this context, but I can't make sense of what the "philosophical" qualifier is doing there. The forum has value. That value doesn't adhere to everyone who posts here, nor to everything that is posted. A much higher standard is s...

No. I believe I have a reasonable grasp of what "value" means in this context, but I can't make sense of what the "philosophical" qualifier is doing there.

The forum has value; to me, to others, and to the magazine, I think.

Re: Words are stupid.

I disagree, though I believe you do have a point. The problem as I see it with language is a) we are all brought up thinking it is more effective than it is, and when we realise how inadequate it is for our purposes (especially if our purposes are philosophical) we are hugely disappointed and can ea...

Re: academic philosophy (what is it good for? absolutely nothing)

In the long history of philosophy almost everything of any worth had come from non-academics

I'm not sure this stands up. Can you explain how you have identified and quantified the value of the outputs of the two groups?

Re: Logic is Grounded in Self Referential Tautologies

I don't recognise any of those symbolic formulae as being the grounding of Logic.

You seem confused, Eodnhoj.

Re: Poppies

I grew up—was brought up—respecting the poppy symbol and Remembrance Day. I've gradually come to distrust it enough to boycott it. Donating to the British Legion and wearing the red poppy is no hardship, and conscientiously objecting to it is nothing as compared to the sacrifice made by those who en...

Re: two apples a day will keep a paradox away

So how could you possibly know what anything means? I've not claimed to know the meaning of anything. I have pointed out that you are misusing the word "paradox" and I am (charitably) assuming that is because you are ignorant. Do you still want to play? Not if you going to treat it as just a game.
