Re: The Key to Unlock the Door

I think what is critical is that we are willing to forfeit bad thinking, which may force us into ceasing certain activities that we are very attached to indeed. If a good example of good thinking is: “We receive but what we give.” then what is the value of the highly competitive nature of something...

Re: John Rawls, the veil of ignorance and American attitudes

If you are speaking of influence, then that is not an issue of inequality but of civil rights. Put it this way. If Bill gates wanted to buy my house to throw me out in the cold, he couldn't do it. If one has a government that protects civil liberties, then it doesn't matter how wealthy someone is c...

Re: John Rawls, the veil of ignorance and American attitudes

And I believe they are wrong. They confuse the issue of inequality with other issues. What they are really against are such things as poverty. Now, we can have poverty, and equality, that is the state where everyone is impoverished. Or, we could have a situation of extreme inequality, but where eve...

Sorry I couldn't find a soundtrack. It's off the album Modern Lovers, which I lost somewhere along the way, but still remember with great affection!

Re: Women cannot be Philosophers.

They don't feel the fragility of selfhood as much as males do. From this statement, I became aware for the first time, the struggle men have. Does it mean that "man has lost dignity in his own eyes to an incredible extent". Has women's "liberation" affected man to such an enormo...

Herd Instinct or Social Brain?

We are social animals. Our mothers don't scrape a hole in the sand, deposit a thousand eggs and then lumber off back into the sea leaving us to take our individual chances. We hang around in troupes. We learn from each other. We have even, across millions of generations, developed the ability to com...

Re: Inspiration

Anything that makes you want to do something better than you think you can is inspiration. A rookie burger flipper can be inspired watching an expert with 3 whole months experience. Downtrodden people can be moved to do great things by listening to a speaker like Martin Luther King. Anywhere between...

Re: Write the first thought that comes to your head!

No I know it is an unfair position to put someone in. In my experience, there is usually a motive behind the question, whether consciously accepted or not e.g. why are you not talking to or avoiding me? I have resolved to communicate better, even if it comes across like a primary school teacher ann...

But now you know we will probably be thinking inconsequential twaddle, it won't be disappointing, will it?

Re: Write the first thought that comes to your head!

On reading the thread title, my first thought was 'Why?' My partner sometimes asks me what I'm thinking about, and I try to answer as honestly as I can. It could be anything from 'Where did I put my driving licence?' to 'What other explanations could there be for the universe's red shift?' She doesn...

Re: Feminism

How does a woman relate to you? It would be virtually impossible, as you have no interest in what a woman says, just what she can give you. It is a continual battle of the wits and will for you, this is unnatural. females have nothing to offer mankind other than sex & babies. We have no interest...

Re: Which, if any, e-reader ?

The kindle looks like a good idea for reading fiction, where you start at page 1 and go straight through.
Is there an e-book that has a link capability for numbered notes in text books? What about book-marks? Indices? Anyone know?
