Re: ~ Fear and Loathing in America ~

Hey, Bill.
Do you live in America? And if so do you feel captive? I do, and I don't. Course that may be because I have a house full of firearms.

Condemned

Condemned, I entered the gate of Hell. The sins for which I was condemned matter not. All are guilty of their own sins. The abode of Hell is not like the priests and nuns of my youth taught. Stuck in the denotation of tradition and dogma, they taught eternal punishment, brimstone, and torture. The r...

Re: Can you "feel" a thought?

Skip, Excellent! I agree with all you said about external stimuli being the cause of ( most at least) brain activity. I also like your “feedback “ loop “idea. It appeals to my engineering/electronics background. What intrigues me most though, is what you call the “complicated and least traceable”. I...

Can you "feel" a thought?

When I mentally verbalize a thought, I have a sense it is occurring or is localized in my head. Since the thought I’m having is, in itself, immaterial, how can this be so? If it is true that electro-chemical activity in the brain gives rise to the thought, perhaps that is what I “feel”. But then, wh...

Re: halos

In pagan, pre-Christian times, I believe the halo was a representation of the connection to the period’s or locality’s sun god. It was used to show the sacredness of the individual behind whose head it was placed.

I have no idea. I find it odd that someone who identifies herself as a philosopher of the mind and writes on the subject would have no thoughts on bus2bondi's question. It is a deeply mysterious subject, one worthy of contemplation. Or do you, Lockensian -like, deem this particular subject beyond o...

How about Joseph Cambell and his works on mythology. For that matter an issue or a few article on the philosophy of mythology would be interesting.

Concerning a subject of which I have little knowledge, I must rely on those who are knowledgeable - the "experts".

But when the experts disagree, I think it prudent to withhold judgment. I would not side with the majority opinion unless it was utterly overwhelming.

I agree with all you've said. I'm just pointing out the argument the creationist would use in reply. And they will not be swayed from it.

Those who do not accept evolution would say that what you are doing in breeding is just making a change within the species. You have not come up with a new species.

Crossbreed two different breeds of dog and the result will still be a dog.

Just started reading "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. I'm only about 20 pages into it so I don't have much to say about it - maybe later.

Anyone have any ideas or pointers for my reading of it?
