Re: Is morality objective or subjective?
The parental duty of care for the child is different. Why? Why is the parent obligated to care for the child after pregnancy, but not during? That some may not sell their labour to a capitalist doesn't make the theft of surplus value from those that do any less a theft. So, it's theft no matter wha...

Re: right to repair
I've seen what you're talking about, and I've been thinking about it too. The way companies retain their involvement/ownership in, or even access to, what they sell to you. Some of them forcing their continued control or gain from your "purchase"... which actually makes it more of a rental/usage co...

Updates that include new "features". Well, this old Ipad I use has long list of updates waitin' for download...I haven't enabled the downloads cuz I don't see the point of them. I ignore them. Disable your auto-download and notifications. Anything that changes "agreements", thereby making the whole...

Re: the righteous tyrant
Heh. :D You don't know what you're talking about, I can see. So I'll help you out. You're trying to say he exceeded the mandate the voters gave him . But if the voters "gave" the mandate, then it means you're a democrat...you don't think authority resides in Boris, or in somebody who appointed him,...

Re: right to repair
Ownership is certainty of access and control. The right to repair is implicit in ownership. Without such a right, ownership is not a meaningful concept. Companies which try to push right to repair legislation are Thieves!, selling you a product while wresting away everything that makes your purchas...

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?
You agree with the moral principle that no person should have the right to use another person's body without that person's consent. Yes, I do. A man belongs to himself. His life, liberty, and property are his. And, in my opinion, that principle trumps any special pleading exceptions. So abortion ri...

Re: the righteous tyrant
the legitimacy of government I take this to mean the legitimacy of a man or men to represent, and direct the affairs of, another man or group of men. Consent of the man or men to be represented and directed seems to be the only legitimizer . And where consent is forced, it becomes non-consent; and ...

Re: Basic Human Rights
Innocent till proven guilty, yeah, another obvious notion that it seems everyone would agree with.
But, nowadays, we don't.
So, yeah, I laugh at the question...
What are some basic human rights that we can all agree to?
...cuz we can't.

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?
In my opinion, no person should have the right to use another person's body without that person's consent. I agree. But, in the case of pregnancy, a person didn't come along and say I'm climbin' in and usin' you, like it or not ...no, a man and woman engaged in behavior guaranteed to cause concepti...

Re: Basic Human Rights
Maybe, if you included woman and children here, then you might get more agreement. They are included: it's just cleaner to say a man belongs to himself; a man's life, liberty, and property are his . a man, woman, or child belongs to him-or her-self; a man's, woman's, or child's life, liberty, and p...

HA!
I can't even get folks here to agree about what seems obvious and basic (a man belongs to himself; a man's life, liberty, and property are his).

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?
And under my regime, respect for liberty would include women's control over their bodies and fertility. Right up to the end of week 12 she can as she likes. But she can't off a person without just cause...no one can, and -- by the end of week 12 -- wha she carries is a person. And respect for prope...

I assume you think...your regime would be beneficent.
My regime...that's funny...you made a funny...
Yep, my regime would be beneficent for those who respect individual life, liberty, and property...not so much for those who don't.

Re: this is not the straw man you're looking for
While I don't think pure Socialism nor pure capitalism are very good solutions by themselves, it seems to me that a healthy economy is going to be one with both private enterprise and public assistance programs as well as government regulation to prevent various market failures. I would think the t...
