Re: Which came first: the chicken or the egg?
The questionn is flawed because it doesn't identify either the specific chicken or egg referred to. Generic chickens and eggs only exist within language.

Memory?Philosophy Explorer wrote:Think about it. What would we use to measure the movement of time? Time itself? I think that time is preoccupied.
If you don't use time, what then? What would qualify to measure the movement of time?

Re: Hello From Tasmania Australia
Well, they are juicy apples for sure, but lack a little crunch for my likes, if I may gently say. And I agree on eqating materialism with the gentler naturalism. I'm not looking at Australia as just materialistic but the most quintessentially so - so far as at least a general scan of history reveals...

Re: Hello From Tasmania Australia
That's a fair start. We can take this almost peripatetically I think, enjoying sojourns and vistas. Let's though make sure we kick the bucket untill its empty. And beyond a metaphorical mood, I must ask if there is a direct manner in which the question on Australian materialism that I posed can be a...

Ron, i would be inerested in your thoughts on David Armstrong, of whose recent death Philosophy Now magazine made mention https://www.google.com.au/search?q=david+armstrong&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari Also, would you agree with a statement that Australian culture (modern) i...

I Love the Bahai temple at Ingleside, Sydney, Ron. I wandered the Hawkesbury many years ago many times and loved the vision of the dome occasionally on the horizon. It always stood as antidote to ubiquitous cringe-Australia... so insular

Re: Deja Vu: A Warning From Life, Itself?
I heard a good 'seers' explanation at a Carlos Castaneda seminar. In very short: we have an energy centre at the top of the head - like we do at various other parts of ourselves, such as the liver, below the navel, the genitals, etcetera. The one at the top of the head is connected to the universe a...

An exoteric case. To be fair on Jackles, I took the liberty andi assumed the questioner was not after esoteric mega-thread encouraging type of replies.

Re: Explain heaven and hell?
One way of putting it is that heaven is when time goes by really quickly and hell is when it seems to almost grounds to a halt. Both are time bound states, and one is preferable to the other depending on one's subjective states. They are physical states in a sense - if our psychology can be said to ...

Re: What Was Your Motivation to Have Children?
Bill Bill Bill Bill Bill... This is very harsh. We all question ourselves. Yes, to call forth life is to expect death in the package. If you have no problem with death then there is no issue. And why would anyone have a problem with death? It comes with life like shadow comes with light. Its not the...

Re: What Was Your Motivation to Have Children?
The Buddha said suffering is inherent to existence. Very different to "Life is suffering" nonsense. My energy and libido decided I'd have children. Not even God could have stopped it happening. What else was there to do? Become a monk? F that! Of course, we are a farmed species anyway and ...
