New Tao Te Ching Commentary

Hi all,

For those of you interested in Chinese philosophy I've started a new commentary on the Tao Te Ching. I've written 2 chapters on it so far, but will be working on it steadily over the coming weeks and months. Enjoy!

Re: What is the point of life?

Hi matt, In what sense are memories happening RIGHT NOW? I fail to… understand the argument. It's hard to grasp, and hard to believe, but once you see what I am saying it will be very hard to dispute. Imagine you think of a scary monster, the thought is a present moment event and the flavour of the ...

Re: What is the point of life?

Hey Matt hough regarding existentialist literature, I have so far only read Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky: I didn't know about the first three philosophers you mentioned (I'll be sure to check them out) and Schopenhauer, Kant & Spinoza have always sounded too complicated for me to feel like reading them. ...

Re: The Philosopher's Tao

Felasco If taken too seriously, the process of philosophy assumes that we are in a position to figure life out, to analyze and manage it. That's a dubious assumption at best. I agree with this position. Philosophy assumes the individual subject in time and space exploring an external world and death...

Re: What is the point of life?

Hi Matt It's nice to know I'm not a maniac depressed person - or that if I am, I'm not the only one. Of course, but I think it's important also to recognise that what you are going through is very rare - and that what is rare is special. When I went through this myself I didn't have an internet conn...

Re: What is the point of life?

All the best people think like this...it is the beginning of wisdom and maturity. It forces the person to seek deeper more robust levels of purpose than most people are capable of. Get through it and you'll be an inspiration to others, because most people unconsciously feel the truth of what you are...

Re: Tao

Uhmmm, that's just generally speaking withot any specifics, how has this been implemented in the real world? The Tao is implemented whenever we our behaviour is spontaneous, and germane to the actual situation rather than behaviour based on imperfect mental appraisals of the situation. In other wor...

Re: Tao

The only words that can serve as synonyms to the Tao are pure being, pure consciousness. Whatever IS, that is the Tao. The Tao is the 'light' of the moment. The past is a memory that happens now in the light, and the light is the Tao. Likewise for the future. Therefore the Tao transcends time, and t...

The Philosopher's Tao

Hi guys, I’ve started this thread as both an explanation and discussion on how the intellect can be used on the spiritual path. For the 15 years of my adult life philosophical thought, alongside meditation, has been my main practice and I now feel that I’m in a position to share what I have learned....
