Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

Arising, Even if a Jnana in the beginning is presupposing what he will find, that doesn’t change what is finally found, just as your presupposing that what is useful will turn out necessarily to be what in fact is useful. We all choose an imaginary goal in the beginning, and as we move towards this ...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

Arising, No, I am not in the market for disciples. That is a slippery road into hell. ; ^ ) Just like you, I would imagine, I enjoy the process of self expressing and of sharing with others, what I, myself, have found either useful in my life and/or contributes to my happiness. A wise master once sa...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

nameless,

I believe our discussion here, at least, has hit a wall. Perhaps this is because we are on a different page. But, maybe we are even reading a different book. ; ^ ) No matter.

I want to thank you for your good will, and your time, on this matter.

Have a nice day.

Namaste,

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

Thank you, Arising, As usual, you are giving me good advice. Are you personally interested in these techniques? What I have so often found to be the case is, that most people aren’t interested in the techniques until some of your ideas make them curious enough to ask for further instruction. Of cour...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

nameless, S9: How do you define ego? N: If all is truly 'one', what is there to 'transcend' what? S9: All is truly ‘One.” But some people so misunderstand what this One Is. What they do believe, is often called illusion. What we transcend, or are liberated from, is this mistaken notion. N: Although ...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

nameless, RE: S9: Some say that metaphysics is the apical growth of all religion. N: At which point, perhaps, it is no longer religion? S9: Just because we give the apical growth, (shall we say of a tree), a more specific name to designate its function, that doesn’t mean that it is no longer a part ...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

nameless, N: Metaphysics is concerned with basic truths of Reality/existence/the Universe. S9: Some say that metaphysics is the apical growth of all religion. It is where you stop taking your information, on the Ultimate, in a second hand fashion (AKA from other people’s experience) and you begin to...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

nameless, I, too, have a background in Zen. I understand how Zen tries to break down old trends of thinking. But I don’t believe they meant for us to all go off into our own little worlds like a classic psychotic with no real correspondence between any of us. So if I were to say pass the salt, then ...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

Nameless, You beat this idea of context to death and I still don’t get what you are getting at. Since everything is in one context or another, does that mean that absolutely nothing is ever wrong? Would it be okay for me to walk in front of a oncoming, speeding car because there is no such thing as ...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

nameless, Perhaps many things appear to be true or untrue from altering perspectives, as you probably meant to say, because obviously everything isn’t true. For instance, a turtle isn’t a human being no matter how you look at it. But, I do think we have to be open to the whole idea, and its ramifica...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

nsmeless, Thank you for your lengthy answer, but on your suggestion I will reduce to a few points that I find most interesting. I have saved your post and perhaps we can get into what I didn’t answer some other time. (I actually did write quite a lengthy answer to you, but it became unweildly.) The ...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

nsmeless, I would like you to consider the fact that some of our misunderstandings with each other may, very well, be in our personal word usage. This always takes time to iron out, don’t you think? But perhaps in doing this we can both win. First let me explain what finitude means to me, because I ...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

nsmeless,

Finite existence takes place in the finite mind, much like a dream. Life is not necessarily only finite, not if it is Eternal life. Mysticism says there is Eternal life, and a finitude of perceived objects are only temporary.

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

Arising, I mean that there is life transcendent of what our mind can tell us, transcendent of the physical as well, or even beyond our limited concepts of what life is as a material event. I mean that there is Eternal Life as apposed to finite life. Eternal life is without birth or death, has no beg...

Re: Nothing exists outside the mind

There is more than one way of knowing AKA seeing. Knowing is not necessarily vision bound. Sometimes we can feel what we are knowing. For instance, we know that we have a leg hanging from our hip without looking at it, or varifying it, with our eyes. We know that we are conscious, even though we can...
