Re: Religion not required

No, religion is a necessary security blanket for a sentient young species. Really? So lets blanket ourselves in the fiery furnace of 'hell'...how's that for a 'security blanket'? It's better then a blizzard. Hell is reserved for those of that religion who follow when it is convenient. If the bible ...

Re: Religion not required

I think a huge part of those 4 are the affects that occur to the people surrounding the person dying or old. Grief and pain causes desperation. You would have to adjust social and family attachments.

Re: Really?

Human competition gets wierd when money and status gets involved. The person who purchased the photo was making a statement not admiring the bland photo. At least a huge part of me dearly hopes someone cannot possibly admire that photo. I prefer thinking a statement was being made.

If they were raised in society from infants, yes. A bunch of adults and young just showing up,, not a chance.

Until cars are proven to have their computers glitch proof and hack proof, planes should be safer.

Re: Wolf cull for loggers' profit margin makes it far more inhumane

Ok why is the logging company attached to the wolf killing and Caribou? The whole cost makes it ridiculous.
A caribou herd would be destructive to new plantings a wolf pack would not. Get rid of the Caribou. It sounds off or I missed something.

Re: Contingency

My position is:
The kicker entered the game knowing and accepting that he/she could get criticized or applauded. Accepting this makes it acceptable to criticize a missed goal. It is part of the game that players must deal with.
No insult intended just a query.

Re: What can you truly say about philosophers?

Most philosophy is personal use. It rarely gives help to others. The published philosophers gave public philosophy yet kept much as personal. If their only philosophies were published then what else rummaged around in their brains? Nothing? Not possible, their words were not equal to the amount of t...

True but, it is a common philosophy to give some respect to predators that hunt you. Journalists are predatory creatures.

Re: What can you truly say about philosophers?

I think either or. Some are born able to think out of the box and some have life force them to think out of the box. I have noticed that those formally educated in philosophy tend to become closed minded, unable to think freely on a philosophical level.

Re: Can Civilization Function Without Exploitation?

Herd/pack/flock, any social animal has exploiters and exploited, the only difference with humans is the knowledge or understanding. The exploited human knows and understands just as the human exploiter does. Take a look at slavery in any point in history. The enslaved generally outnumbered their mas...
