It might be time to play that game you keep talking about....
So is it a yardage tax or the value of the land or the income produced from the land?
Is one meter of a gold mine taxed the same as one meter of my living room?

Re: What if we had zero taxation and the government kept the
I'm glad Bob the Baptist is here to set you straight. The only proper function of government is social integration, like a traffic cop, to keep people from running into each other. The only proper form of taxation is an ad valorem tax on everything that has intrinsic market value. Any questions, ju...

I know it is a naive question on many levels. Just hoping people will get past that or not.
As philosophers perhaps we can look at the issue and see what is good or bad about it or not.

Yes but it would be controlled, in that the govt says, this year we need x billion for what we want to do and It would be controlled by the election process. So the inflation rate would be known and predictable. The govt cannot print more money in a year than it says it needs. Hopefully we have the ...

Kuznetsova, the problematic one of your the "cornerstones" is the last: The primary purpose of the brain is .... To talk about purposes is not fruitful. It's too much Platon and Aristoteles, to try to find purposes. I don't say that I do not believe in natural selection, but to take it as...

The greed of American labor has already priced us out of the world labor market, the runaway inflation would only make it worse. Cut government spending for pork barrel programs and internal and foreign subsidies and you might start to eliminate the debt. Yes cutting back is the solution to saving....

What if we had zero taxation and the government kept the rig
Hi all, Just had a thought, although Quantitative Easing prompted the idea, and wanted some input. What if we had zero taxation and the government kept the right to print money? - no taxation, a massive burden removed from the people, also the compliance cost and the taxation system cost are gone - ...

Re: Does lying violate the no harm principle?
It depends how you qualify "harm" and "consequence". If you mean by "harm" just the physical damage to an organism and are limiting impact of lying to just immediate and direct consequences then your proposition is probably true, but I personally would not interpret ha...

Does lying violate the no harm principle?
Hi all,
I will propose no it doesn't. The transmission of information in no way damages the cells of another being.
Naturally I want responses.
But if I am right then does that mean that the no harm principle is insufficient because it cannot cover lying.

Trending away creationism, 7 concluding remarks The sun formed naturally. Stars form naturally. The origins of the elements were fusion reactions in dying stars. The solar system is a natural occurrence and so are its planets. The Earth is a rocky inner planet, and it is small and near the sun, jus...
