Re: The Tragedy of Life

One can get jaded after being exposed to something. Everything will lose it's novelty or freshness. But for me the excitement or enjoyment can come back again after awhile. One small example is this. I've played video games until I got tired of them. Then I would uninstall them. But a year later or ...

Re: flat Earth

And of course you do have people who believe that the earth is hollow and that there is life within this hollow world or cavity. Some esoteric occult groups actually believed that there were a race of superbiengs living there that they wanted to communicate with. This equally crackpot belief however...

Re: Is War Inevitable?

Note 10,000 years ago, the humans then would have thought it would take 'perfect' human beings to be able to reach the Moon. Now that we have reached the Moon we are very far from 'perfection' and there is still so much room for humans to be better humans. Technological and scientific progress does...

Re: "only god can save us now"

He may have been a catholic philosopher but he also joined the Nazi party under Hitler. I'm not sure whether he did willingly or out of peer pressure but the fact that he did raises some questions. How much of a catholic was he? How does he reconcile his existential philosophy with a belief in God? ...

Re: Philosophy videos

Re: The meaning of life

I will agree with Jean Paul Sartre who argues that life in itself is meaningless. However it's up to us and us only, to give it meaning. We are the only ones who can. And that can vary with different opinions as to what gives life meaning. For some it's serving one's country, others ones family, dev...

Re: nihilism

[quoteOn the other hand, in the absence of God, as has been noted by some, "all things are permitted".][/quote] On the other hand all things can be permitted and justified in the name of God or religion. That which we would consider wrong such as killing or discriminating against others ha...

When the majority of people start believing in something, that's the time to seriously question it.

Hello. Just joined tonight.

Hello my name here is tonterias. Which for those who speak Spanish it means nonsense or bullshit. Not that I intend to spread any around here. I have chosen this name as I have come across quite a bit of it elsewhere, and haven't hesitated to use this to label it as such. It's also the same name I'v...
