Re: Ordinary Language Philosophy

Although the excerpt quoted didn't match the title of the post, I'd still give it a thumbs up for an interesting description of the problem at hand. At a minimum, given philosophy is aimed at solving real problems, it should be accessible to the l'homme moyen, which in its present form isn't. I'd sa...

Re: Divine Etymology Argument

The only explanation or conjecture I can think of is that, bereshit there were only as many words as letters in a given alphabet. So, if the English language has 26 letters, ab ovo it had only 26 words. The meaning of some letters, like Z, are lost in the mists of time. One of the many reasons put f...

Re: Science is Dead!

Since resurrection is scientifically impossible I guess that's it! Requiescat in pace Scientia. Don't worry, I sense a coming change in scientific opinion concerning resurrection there's almost NOTHING science won't try  Interesting comment! And once more ... there'll be peace in the galaxy.

Re: Triune Brain & Morality

I see. How so very disappointing. I had grown to like Maclean's theory - it is a theory, oui? I'd call it a hypothesis, though I did call it a theory earlier. Nevertheless, I was very specific with regard to the criticism I offered. Truth is, I really had no choice but to say what I did. No worries...

Re: Triune Brain & Morality

One poster seems unconvinced by David Maclean's theory and although he has quite a good reason for his skepticism, we could counter his argument by calling to our aid a very well-worn distinction. One certainly could. But given that the context is a discussion with someone who refers to FSKs, the r...

Re: I'm straight and tired of gay pride

Touchy subject, gayism . Whatever it is that's happening as I write this, again boils down to the power of specific common denominator - it's not at all surprising that this phenomena seems restricted to a particular group. Gayism isn't a particularly good yardstick to measure progress, but does pro...

Now I know how it all began. However there's a significant difference between the two - discernible using the right filter - and the choices on offer - a chance vs. whatever the other side's offering - are, if 5 more minutes were spent on considering them, adiaphora. 😄

Re: The possible purpose of BLACK HOLES...

Neat hypothesis! But what about the CONTRADICTIONS and INCONSISTENCIES in it? Are they 'neat' also? Yet, seems as though, the story is only half-finished. Is this some kinda non finito deal you're trying to peddle, us ignoramuses being the unsuspecting marks? Finish the story mon ami, the hook and ...
