Philosophy Now Forum

Many years ago I read about a philosopher, I think German, who possibly did not travel much, who wrote about looking closely at a small (physical) area, the idea being possibly that there are worlds to find even in a limited purview. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I would love a name / quotation.
