Re: Massive Mass Reparations for African-Americans
If the reparations be massive enough, look forward to race-identification piggy-backing on the current legitimacy of arbitrary sex-identification. Given the way folks have been misbehaving of late, it's reasonable to figure that anyone willing to sell their heritage for a few pieces of silver would...

Re: Massive Mass Reparations for African-Americans
then you must think you're responsible for that, and if so then you are being played. Child, I pointed out that this is not, by any reasonable measure, ancient history. I am not, personally, responsible for it. The effects of this history - that only recently passed of out living memory - are still...

Re: Introduction - Baptist Minister Here
Attofishpi, I noticed that there does not seem to be a whole lot of discussion here, and much of what is here is not of great quality. I will check in from time to time and see if there are an interesting responses to a few things I posted. But maybe there is a livelier and more philosophical philos...

Re: Massive Mass Reparations for African-Americans
you bone heads are being played, just look you're yapping about something that pretty much has been history for over 150 years in the free world. You must be rather young. As for me, I was alive when some people who were slaves before the Civil War were alive. I know grandchildren of people who wer...

Re: reparations are evil
Robert Nozick has an interesting - and very compelling argument for reparations as well as a suggestion on how it might be done - and he is coming at it from a strong Libertarian perspective:

Re: Should the Mentally Ill Be Restricted from Owning Guns?
Perhaps the concept "mentally unstable" should not be conflated with the concept of "mentally ill". Plenty of mentally ill people are very stable - given a combination of right medication and right lifestyle. And plenty of people who would never be diagnosed with any mental disor...

Re: Who do we think we are?
I was talking to an elderly black woman recently about this. She apparently got her grandson's underpants in a bunch when she said that white people trying to pass as black does not pick her wallet, break her leg, or prevent her from voting, so she is not going to lose any sleep over it. Young peopl...

Re: PLEASE DEFINE "SIN"
- What God prohibit, regardless of what it is. You can be fairly confident that if God prohibits something, it is a sin. However, does it make sense to jump from that to "It is a sin BECAUSE God prohibits it"? If we make this jump, then we get into the circular "God forbids sin becau...

Introduction - Baptist Minister Here
Hello all, I am a semi-retired Baptist minister and (as you can tell from my username) a grandmother. Recently I have been spending some time catching up on philosophy written after the 19th century. The kind of philosophy I got exposed to in rural Bible College, university and graduate school was t...
