But doesn't also awareness need thought to be known? And so then, how can you be aware of something if you don't know you are aware of it?

Re: A.I. requires human consciousness for sentience

It really isn't. Recursivness in Computability or Recursion theory refers to sets of numbers, Turing machines and very general concept of computability of a function. Recursion in recursive function simply means input to next iteration depends on the result of the last iteration. And with this you ...

Re: A.I. requires human consciousness for sentience

Well. I am definitely not confusing it - recursion theory is the theory of recursive functions - to try and draw a distinction here reeks of desperation. Recursion is one of the pillars of computer science and I happen to be a computer scientist. Recursion is completely different concept in 'Recurs...

Re: Free will and things I dont see anyone has noticed

Are you going to need me to untangle the knots for you? You are making the point there is no point to talk about anything, and yet you are talking yourself. Everything is a concept from our _subjective point of view. But this subjective 1st person view also makes one concept different than any othe...

Re: Free will and things I dont see anyone has noticed

Read the following to understand what it is that I find within the question of consciousness. But which one is your argument exactly, let's see. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentience Sentience is the capacity to feel, perceive, or experience subjectively. If you do not understand what "sub...

Re: Consciousness, what is and what it requires?

Please clarify how you are using ‘experience’... https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/experience b. having an experience of something means experiencing the thing. Yes, what you are aware of in the present moment. That is primary meaning and standsrd usage in Philosopht of mind. I already poi...

Why are you talking about me instead of to explain what do you mean to say by choosing "c. Something else"?

Re: Do we need consciousness?

How experience can be stored in unconscious mind? Unconscious mind or subconsciousness is just a bio-electro-mechanical storage for data and automatic functions like heart pumping or reflex responses. I think with neural networks we can completely if not emulate it, then simulate it. Keeping in min...

Re: A.I. requires human consciousness for sentience

How does it prove this statement wrong? Have you recently googled the term "recursion theory" ? You are confusing "recursive function" with "recursion theory". Google it, and if it is still not clear you may then ask me to explain. The lack of of evidence that they can...

Re: Consciousness, what is and what it requires?

So far it's Turtles all the way down (recursion in its own right - subject to the halting problem), and there's no good way of telling if that's an artefact of reality or artefact of our recursive minds examining reality. Perhaps even both. I don't see why would I argue if your only point is that t...

Re: Consciousness, what is and what it requires?

Perhaps Zelebg should have said that to be conscious is to have memories of experiences and access to those memories. I'm saying the same thing as Wikipedia in its definition of sentience. Sentience is the capacity to feel, perceive, or experience subjectively. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senti...

b. neitheir you nor camera are having any experience.

Re: Do we need consciousness?

Consciousness is kind of a loom interlacing all the cognitive, sensory and emotional threads and vawing them into the memory as a single unified tapestry of experiences. Or antenna, probably a better example since it can both encode and decode. But do humans need an antenna? Of course! So shapeshift...

Re: Consciousness, what is and what it requires?

To be conscious is to have experience. Babies are conscious but lack experience https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/experience Apparently you are using secondary meaning of the word "experience", taking it to mean "already having memory and knowledge" or "already hav...
