Re: Lawrence Krauss

Universities and other institutions have policies in place regarding workplace behavior, which includes speech acts. Whether someone's sensibilities are offended or not is besides the point. Sounds like virtual utopia. It is actually the reality in all institutions with more than a handful of emplo...

Re: Lawrence Krauss

Did you read the article I posted: https://medium.com/@philosophytorres/here-are-what-some-folks-are-saying-about-the-recent-allegations-against-lawrence-krauss-e4c444b2d715? There are several other allegations that have not been made public. The fact of the matter is that neither of us know the ex...

Re: Lawrence Krauss

https://www.chronicle.com/article/3-Revelations-From-the/244887 Judging from this article, the most serious thing I see here is the groping. The other stuff (others witnessing him and a colleague apparently kissing consensually and "sexual comments") doesn't seem all that serious to me. T...

Re: Lawrence Krauss

Now I see careers ruined over sexual improprieties which some go into an absolute FRENZY over. Yes, there is some overreaction but there is in response there are some who irrationality assume that all allegations must be false, that it is nothing more than mass hysteria. It think it is reasonable t...

Re: Lawrence Krauss

What is your reaction to this video of Ariana Grande having a priest put an arm around her? Do you think this is sexual misconduct? It looked innocent enough until the end where it got into questionable territory. It may have just been the way she is built and it may have looked different from a di...

Re: Lawrence Krauss

Indeed. If someone tries to grope me and I don't want them to, I tell them. I'm all growed up This may be the closest you get to sex with another person but how you might act is irrelevant to the question of whether this type of behavior should be condoned. If you are all growed up as you imagine y...

Re: Lawrence Krauss

If you want to talk 'legal' then yes, he was 'allowed'. I think what we are talking about here is hypocrisy. Hypocrisy on the part of Asia Argento. You are abusing the term 'teacher student' which implies a teacher and a vulnerable child, or very young adult. Universities are not the same environme...

Re: Lawrence Krauss

Is 'inappropriate' a legal term? If so, then what does it mean in a legal sense? My opinion is that it's far worse for a teacher to have sex with a pupil ('consensual' or not) or some other authority figure (eg. a psychiatrist and their patient), with a vulnerable person (the young often get crushe...

Re: Lawrence Krauss

[/quote] Apparently he claims to be disgusted and feels he was abused. It's not really about what you consider to be inappropriate is it? I believe sex with a 17 year old used to be called 'statutory rape' in the United States (where you are from?). Perhaps it still is. I'm surprised at such double ...

Re: Lawrence Krauss

It must suck to be attractive. Look on the bright side, though. When she gets old, fat and/or wrinkly she'll be forgotten and no one will pay any more attention to her. She'll never be "sexually harassed" again. Nirvana awaits! Who is "she"? He has apparently been doing this for...

Re: Lawrence Krauss

This is the first I'd heard of this story. Here's an article I just Googled on it. https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2018/10/lawrence-krauss-sexual-misconduct-me-too-arizona-state/573844/ I also heard that Hawking attended some sort of sex club/ranch on the US West coast a few times. Here...

Re: There cannot be any emergence

Where have you been the last 100 years? Atoms are no longer considered “elemental”. Atoms are emergent phenomena. You can pretend they are elemental if you want max Planck to spin in his grave. Physics is at the quantum paradigm now. The Periodic Table of Elements is not obsolete. Atoms are still c...

Re: There cannot be any emergence

Sure. Still waiting for an example of a what you think is a non-emergent property. I didn’t know you were waiting. One might start with the properties the elements out of which salt emerges, sodium and chlorine, since they are elemental their properties are non-emergent. But you might erroneously d...

Re: There cannot be any emergence

Naturally. Knowing the names or definitions of things doesn't constitute neither knowledge nor understanding. I also happen to know what knowledge is. 1st hand. It's just hard to put into words... And unless you had knowledge, I doubt the dictionary will tell you what "appeal to authority"...
