Re: Computers Are Incapable Of Creatively Writing Music
I'm not disagreeing with "a simulation cannot be a simulation unless there is a real thing to simulate"--that's wrapped up with the conventional concept of the term, and I'm not disagreeing with "A representation can exist even when it references the internal alone." What I'm asking is what the epi...

Re: Computers Are Incapable Of Creatively Writing Music
That would just be the same thing. What would be the grounds for classifying something as a "simulation" or for positing an external thing that's simulated, IF the premise is that we can only experience the "simulation"? In other words, that's just changing the terms we're using, but not the ideas ...

Re: the conquest of the will
Of all the things happening in the universe, indeed of all the things happening in your body, you have the hypothetical possibility of controlling precisely one, whatever you're paying attention to at the present moment. To what extent that control is meaningful must be reduced by things which are ...

Re: What's the easiest language to learn?
The easiest language to learn is the one spoken by your parents and siblings. You will learn this language without memorizing lists or studying for exams. It may take you months to become fluent and years to master it, but, no matter, longer doesn’t make it harder.

Re: Computers Are Incapable Of Creatively Writing Music
Not to play at semantics, but possibly to move the discussion along, a better word than “representation” might be “simulation”—in a simulation of the external environment there must be an external environment to be simulated. I expect pushback on this from both sides. Nonetheless it puts the questi...

Re: Computers Are Incapable Of Creatively Writing Music
Let me put it this way. We are definitely Seeing our Brain/Mind internal Representation of the External World. The purpose of this Representation is to Detect the External World so we can operate in it. And so yes, we Observe and Study that Representation of the External World. The only things we c...

Re: Basic Human Rights
My honest question is do atheists get to have God given rights, and if they do, how does that work? A fair question, and perhaps a natural one: does an Atheist have to know he has rights, in order for him to have the rights? Certainly, if the Atheist does not even believe he has rights, he's not li...

Re: Basic Human Rights
I have ALREADY asked the question, What does the word 'rights' mean, to 'you', ANY one. I am still waiting for CLARIFICATION. I have already answered your question ad nauseum. Now it’s your turn to repeat or restate what “rights” means to you. Feel free to go off on a tangent rather than answering ...

Re: Basic Human Rights
So what’s it going to be? Rights must be guaranteed or rights need only have the authority, the means and the accountability to be rights. By your 3 criteria, basic healthcare is a right, but just not guaranteed. Basic health care is a blessing. But it cannot be a "right," because it totally depend...

Re: Basic Human Rights
But maybe that's only because people don't think through what "human rights" entail. Certainly those who are plumping for "health care" as a human right don't know what they're saying, since no such thing can be guaranteed at all. The same should be said for everybody who thinks a "living wage" is ...
