Re: The Countable (Dedekind) Reals
Believe who you want. I don't believe someone who contradicts himself. That's fucking useless advice. I want to believe true things. I don't want to believe false things. So who is telling the truth; and who is lying? Some experts are saying ℝ is countable. Other experts are saying ℝ is not countab...

Re: The Countable (Dedekind) Reals
So don't say that. Why not? I want to know! Is ℝ countable; or is ℝ not countable? Google and the status quo of Mathematics are telling me ℝ is not countable. I have published and peer-reviewed Computer Scientist telling me ℝ is countable. Who is lying to me? Who do I believe?!? Believe who you wan...

Re: The Countable (Dedekind) Reals
My words have meaning which you can look up in a dictionary. The meaning of your words comes from a dictionary? Shame. I use my words as necessary. Your words have meaning but I don't know what you are trying to say. Which part of this is confusing you? IF one takes the axiom of non-contradiction s...

Re: The Countable (Dedekind) Reals
Mathematicians devised methods for solving problems. Those methods were always available waiting to be discovered. Discovered doesn't mean invented. Words, words, words. Meaningless words. If one claims to subscribe to the axiom of non-contradiction (as Mathematicians claim that they do!) it is not...

Re: The Countable (Dedekind) Reals
To be fair, Andrej Bauer is a famous constructive mathematician and a highly lucid and interesting expositor. The problem here is that the OP knows how to post a link, but has no actual understanding of the video himself. The problem with commentary like this is that the commenter doesn't even unde...

Re: Knowledge is Pattern Formation
We observe through patterns, patterns act as the filter for further knowledge with this further knowledge being a pattern which acts in turn much like a filter. The human mind continually renews itself through the patterns recieved given those which make it through the filter in turn act as meta pa...

Re: Purpose?
If something serves no purpose then its not valued, or valuable. If a person serves no purpose, then is that person of no value? Are we locked into the need to be valued? what if a person had no need to be valued, would that person be free to be at peace with himself and the world around him, even ...

It is not known what created the mind.popeye1945 wrote: ↑Fri May 13, 2022 12:02 pm Is not the subconscious mind just the consciousness of the body, it was after all the body that created the mind, not the mind that created the body.

Re: Thinking is the ability of mind
OK, I was orginally responding to... This seems to posit certain functions for the conscious mind and other minds that take care of other things, the unconscious. But to me these minds do not have discrete functions. Rather what one is conscious of shifts over time. What is unconscious today may be...

Re: Thinking is the ability of mind
There is no strong emergence (this is discussed here ). This means that the brain cannot possibly have a property that the parts don't have. The brain thinks. Therefore, thinking is the property of parts/minds (mind being irreducible substance with abilities to experience, think, decide and cause)....

Re: The Goodness of Existence
We don't choose to be born but, once we are, we learn how to live. If we were never born, we would never learn anything. We learn to die. Death is our only achievement in life. That's the stark, raw reality, some people refuse to face. The void is the only reality there is. Striving for achievement...
