Re: The Final Truth, a Theory of Everything
Minus the UFO and the frequency and the Yin Yang talk, that is basically what Plato says is the natural result of studying philosophy.

Re: Faith without knowledge
Hi guys, I am new to this forums, I hope somebody here could shed light on the following question of mine. I am not even sure if it has been asked before, if it is then I'm sorry for bringing it up again. Is the following question even a logical one? "I don't know but I have faith". As the definiti...

Re: Abortion is murder, or is it?
Roe v Wade decided that it was a violation of privacy to outlaw abortions, but there is no right to privacy guarenteed by the constitution. It seems Pro-Life is the just position. Umm, you do realise that 'The Constitution' only applies to the US don't you??? No one else gives a shit about it. I fo...

Re: What is philosophy, ad infinitum.
Philosophy is the study of Plato.
Philosophy also involves the long lost noesis, or immediate and direct apprehension, contrasted with discursive or step-by-step thought.

Kant's objective reality consists of two kinds of things: waves and particles. The two are divided into two (smell and taste) and three (touch, sound and sight) by the body. With touch considered the main sense, there is only one type of phenomenon. I'm not very well versed in science. Is this nonse...

Re: Can a depressed person live a meaningful life?
Try philosophizing. Few people here even try it. Even once. How you gonna knock it before you try it? Give it a chance. Actually I think philosophizing by someone who is chronically depressed results in just more loneliness and isolation. What troubled people need is a friend and a cup of coffee. A...

Re: President
So would you be socially conservative as well as fiscally conservative? And how do you feel about the three candidates? As far as social conservatism I believe in marriage whether straight or same sex. As far as fiscal conservatism I believe Keynesian economic principles, but it is troubling that e...

Re: Confident v Asshole
Nah, you're just peanutbutter and jealous of my philosophical prowess. Hard truths are similar to insult-jokes, but they come from those who show us respect. How can I be an asshole if I show you respect?

Re: Confident v Asshole
For starters, insult-jokes are deceiving. Because it is unclear whether it is a joke or an insult, it is unclear whether it is motivated by confidence or malice. Rest assured: nobody who respects you will put you in a position where you have to make that judgement call. That is, insult-jokes are ins...

Re: Popularity v etc
Honor is based on virtue. Popularity is based on pure appeal. Both are a kind of social distinction. Respect is honor minus social distinction. Prestige is usually based on something competitive, and more sought-after than usual. Good reputation is good social standing.
