Re: The Most Despotic Taxes Known to Mankind

Try and pay attention, Gary. Bob the Baptist knows this because he is a prophet who has been granted a divine revelation. In other words he's a raving fucking lunatic.

Re: What is a mystic?

I think gonzo is a useful descriptor because of the extreme subjectivity of the mystical experience, which makes such experiences just as meaningful in a secular setting to a non-believer as it does in a religious setting to a person of faith. With a mild toke of home-grown I can sit on my verandah ...

Mysticism defined as gonzo philosophy is very astute, Greta.

Re: Socialism: What Has Gone Wrong?

Gary. It is commonplace in your country to conflate socialism with Marxism, which is a desperately anachronistic way to interpret socialism as it is practiced in a modern liberal democracy. Perhaps the most erudite debunking of Marxism which I've ever read was "The Opium of the Intellectuals&qu...

Re: Socialism: What Has Gone Wrong?

Do you currently pay your taxes? When was the last time anyone put a gun to your head and told you to pay taxes? If no one put a gun to your head to pay those taxes and you paid them, then those taxes must be justified. So don't complain anymore about taxes. Gary, please be serious. If you refuse t...

Re: Is it more natural for an object to drop or float?

You know better than that. I know better than to take such a daft question seriously. Is it more natural for what appears to is as objects to fall or float. For fuck's sake, JS, what the hell's the matter with you? What object? Fall where? Float on what? I'll remind you that this is a philosophy fo...

There's no such thing as an object.

Re: Socialism: What Has Gone Wrong?

It's also worth bearing in mind that advances in technology of themselves also have a direct impact on living standards. For instance when I was a child a black and white TV set cost something like eight times average weekly earnings. When I bought my first computer with all the trimmings it cost me...

Re: Earth at the center of the Universe?

Doc. I don't think we're actually in disagreement about the origins of matter , either with each other or with conventional physics, but I was seeking to attach a different emphasis to this. The universe is EVOLVING, and an evolutionary process is only definable in the language of its changes. We al...

Re: Socialism: What Has Gone Wrong?

In short I don't see how it's accurate to say that capitalism helps people look out for themselves more so than socialism. Socialists want to take money out of your wallet to give to somebody else. That goes against capitalism and evolution itself! You're a simplistic half-wit, Bob, and you don't k...

Re: Socialism: What Has Gone Wrong?

My point is that looking out for yourself, the driving force of evolution is more closely tied to capitalism than socialism. Looking out for yourself is not the driving force of evolution, Bob, as any evolutionary biologist will tell you. The driving force of evolution is the ability of life to ada...

Re: The Most Despotic Taxes Known to Mankind

I think we've reached peak Evenson here A little bit of Evenson goes a fucking a long way, Flash, but it never seems to advance the discussion by very much. However your critique of Evensonomics has been quite illuminating, even though one wouldn't need a lot of economics to recognise Bob's model a...
