Re: Does existential fashion philosophy exist?

Regardless, existentialism is a valid, modern philosophy. Sarte, Nietzsche and still applicable. I think a lot of person accept the precepts of existentialism without calling to be an existentialist.

Re: Epistemology 101

In a changing universe where even its basic laws are slowly changing, it would be a grave mistake to claim absolute knowledge, which no one certainly believes today. We must be content with relative knowledge and accept probabilities as exacting knowledge, "More than likely" has replaced &...

Re: Absolutely Nothing is Absolutely Certain

I am absolutely certain that absolutes don't exist. The fallacy of course as was Descartes. No matter how much we doubt existence we never it seems doubt our experiences and that doubt. Invariably we always start with something that we presuppose, some construct that we take for granted because if w...

Re: Heidegger view of Being

Being of Being for Heidegger is a groundless ground, an inner light towards human reality and our structure of reality. The road splits at this point. Do we follow Heidegger in that human consciousness runs deeper and is grounded in something we cannot define, or do we follow way which interprets ma...

Re: Nietzsche on nihilism and truth

What we miss in our interpretations of Nietzsche and possibly Hitler is the grand historical vision of Geist with a Will to Power to create and conquer newer horizons, a newer world, and a newer man. Geist has a purpose, an historical context. We have lost this and don't have anything to replace it ...

Re: Nietzsche on nihilism and truth

To quote Herr Nietzsche, one doesn't need logic and an argument, sometimes one needs a good box on the ears! Excellent insights into nihilism and truth, and yes, Nietzsche is as relevant as ever. As a philosophy major from San Diego, the class on Nietzsche filled up quicker than the Rolling Stones c...

Re: An Evolutionary Conspiracy

Dominant male the less hair he had the more sexier his appearance. Sex dominates! But I suppose the real explanation is our use of fire and clothing that made fur less important. Fire has a major contribution in our morphology especially in our protruding jaws as well as the hardness of our teeth, e...

Re: Meno's paradox

I agree that the Meno seems outdated, but I had a professor once who said, "All of you have the Truth inside of you, my job is to just let it out." That makes sense if we believe intuition and revelation are part of knowledge. Pascal without reading Euclid was able as a child to deduce all...

Re: Do you need imagination to make art?

As a professional portrait painter I will say no. Some portrait painters just copy what they see and only use the material basis. No imagination, just the process of A=A. Usually these are boring pieces. An artist portrait painter tries to go deeper by using imagination to capture some illusive inne...
