Re: Carpe diem

A Latin aphorism from book 1 of the Roman poet Horace's work 'Odes' ( 23 BCE) Can be translated as Seize the Day; Seize the Present; Pluck the Day - enjoy the moment. What does it mean ? Whenever I hear the phrase “carpe diem,” I picture a bored college professor using it to end a lecture to the fr...

@Belinda 'universal reason' ?

The higher perspective cannot be what you call "consciously connecting levels of reality" : that is not scientific but may be a delusion of grandeur. Believing in your own thoughts as if those thoughts belonged to you is not a sign of intelligence, this intelligence is dangerous, it means...

Re: KMS Bismarck

My grandson did a report on the KMS Bismarck and didn't ask me a single question. I don't know what was in the report but I could probably have told him a lot more, he didn't even know who it was named after. If he didn't know who it was named for, isn't that kind of a bad sign for the report? :? T...

Quote of the Day

Not-knowing is knowing ' Knowing ' is a word . It is a different word to ' not-knowin g'. It takes its meaning from the way we use words, which varies, but our use of ' knowing ' is not usually interchangeable with ' not-knowing '. So, you would need to be clearer about what you mean when you use t...

Re: Reading your life as if it were a book

@ Dalek Prime - thanks for providing author's name etc. So, did you have a turning point after reading such books, or did you seek them out following reflection on your own life...or Life in general ? I remember our previous discussions, and your point of view. I read the reviews, and yes, it sounds...

Re: Reading your life as if it were a book

A good starting point could be to realize whether there have been any turning points in one´s life. The turning points could be analyzed and important personal criteria could be discoverd which in turn would allow a deep access into a person´s personality. Yes, I think that can be done both during ...

Re: Reading your life as if it were a book

One could write like this: "Very late in life I finally realized that I had to lie at least 10 times a day in order to be an adult. I started a chart and made a point for each lie. On days when I was not able to make a point I got worried." This would be life from the point of view of a d...

Re: The Second Coming of Christ.

What does the 'Second Coming of Christ' look like? Some sort of wet patch, I imagine. Looks like your waters have broken. Is this philosophy of religion ? Or more of the same crazy trolling... Obsessive rantings no matter the thread title. Some find it amusing. Ridiculous. A bit of a larf. I guess ...

Response to Belinda

Nick wrote: You and Belinda would prefer just to kill the natural impulse of objective intuition because it is “religious.” As I’ve said so many times, Indeed you have Nick. Belinda, I've kept out of this thread after taking advice from AMod, following N's abuse towards Greta and myself. I will not...

Re: Reading your life as if it were a book

I'd make it factual, leaving judgments and interpretations to others, without any from me. Don't you think that in providing even a skeleton of biographical facts, some judgments are already involved. You choose what to select, in what order - chronological, or by theme... And this slight framework...

Re: Reading your life as if it were a book

From the earlier mentioned Alain Badiou article: ' Nietzsche wrote that a philosophy is always the biography of the philosopher. Maybe a biography of the philosopher by the philosopher himself is a piece of philosophy. So I shall tell you nine stories taken of my private life, with their philosophic...
