Re: Kant on space

If we take away the subject (Humans), or even only the subjective constitution of our senses in general, then not only the nature and relations of objects in space and time, but even space and time themselves disappear; and that these, as appearances, cannot exist in themselves, but only in us... No...

Kant on space

Space is not something objective and real, nor a substance, nor an accident, nor a relation; instead, it is subjective..." Immanuel Kant, Inaugural Dissertation of 1770, p 65 I agree with Kant that we cannot understand space either empirically and/ or analytically. However, in my opinion that d...

Re: P=P is a Contradiction

Please note that I am not saying that mountains are blocking my path to New York City. I am saying that even if they were that would not alter the fact that I am 496 miles from New York City.

Re: P=P is a Contradiction

The reason that I said that I can say that I am 2,000 miles from New York, 3,000 miles from New York or say any distance (that is the absurd consequences of taking your absurd position and a classic logic move. You assume that your opponent is correct and then show how it implies absurd conclusions ...

Re: P=P is a Contradiction

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxicab_geometry#/media/File:Manhattan_distance.svg OK , you are a taxi driver and want to take the green arrow because it is obviously the shortest route. Unfortunately, the streets are perpendicular and only run in a east/west and north/south direction. Solution 1. Ta...

Re: P=P is a Contradiction

Suppose you are a taxi driver and you are angry that you cannot go from point A to point B directly because there is private property and buildings in the way. You get political power and you have those buildings declared public areas and have them removed and then put in a street that is the shorte...

Re: P=P is a Contradiction

Sure in a city where diagonal lines are arbitrarily forbidden you cannot drive from some point A to point B in the shortest distance. But that doesn't mean that there is no shortest distance. It means that to take the shortest possible distance between 2 points you will have to trespass people's pro...

Re: P=P is a Contradiction

And since , the shortest distance between 2 points is always a single straight line. Your link does not show a square circle!

Your example is EUCLIDIAN GEOMETRY! In no place does it deny that the shortest distance between 2 points is a single straight line!

Re: P=P is a Contradiction

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxicab_geometry#/media/File:Manhattan_distance.svg Look at the example from your own link! It shows that the shortest distance from point A to point B is still a single straight line. Of course if you arbitrarily say that one can only move back and forth and never in a...

Re: P=P is a Contradiction

Suppose you are a taxi driver and after your boss explains what your traveling time will be and that a straight line from point A to point B cannot be taken. Would you then say, " WOW! Squares are circles and circles are squares because common sense geometry is out the window!"

Re: P=P is a Contradiction

Actually taxi cab geometry IS EUCLIDIAN geometry! Its just saying that if you cannot go the shortest route because you live on a grid, this is how you can calculate the distance.

Skepdick https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxicab_geometry#/media/File:Manhattan_distance.svg Suppose you are a taxi driver and your boss tells you that since there isn't any street that goes straight from point A to point B it will take longer than a direct route. However, he has devised a mathematica...
