Re: Social media and the reinforcement of the ego

As we live in a world which has become almost completely integrated with social media, it seems the collective ego has also become heavily amplified. It’s no real surprise, and I think big tech knew this, and even intentionally planned it. Just look at the product names of apples lineup: IPhone, IP...

Re: People who know nothing ... Socrates understood.

most people are so enmeshed in the garbage from birth they have no choice. I think folks, after a certain point, choose their garbage...they have a choice...I say, hold 'em responsible for it Us lucky few who were born outside of it, had the perspective to see the madness as just that. that's crap....

Re: People who know nothing ... Socrates understood.

Ramana Maharshi: "Be rid of current thoughts. That is all."

I'll go with the guy who transcended all suffering.

He lived until 1950. Google him.

Re: Karma Lies

Karma is action based upon the illusory "I..." thought. All action based upon "I..." (will, won't, want to, wish...) is based upon an illusory separate self and all actions based upon that ego is karma. So basically everything everyone does is karmic in nature. This is why we're in the mess we're in.

Re: Logic is a Ponzi scheme

So the purpose of thought is to generate more thought. And this isn't a Ponzi? If the purpose of thought was to generate less thought, we'd have no thought left. If you could see the situation from a higher dimensional perspective (thought free Awareness) you would WANT THE FUCK OUT!! I do see the ...

Re: Logic is a Ponzi scheme

The purpose of logic is to express your train of thought. The purpose of expressing your train of thought is to structure it in a way that's communicable to others. In so far it's useful to somebody for the purpose at hand - it's not a Ponzi scheme. Logic is the only language computers understands....

Logic is a Ponzi scheme

All systems of thought originate from the infinite potential of the Absolute. If the originating thought of a system points consciousness directly back into the Absolute, the system dies out because the the "answer" has been reached; the system has operated properly and is thus concluded. If, howeve...

A new religion

NONCONCEPTUALITY Reason for life: The mental and physical realms are a divine game. The goal of the game is to escape the game. Suffering: Suffering is the clue in the game reminding us of the goal. The further you are from the goal the more you suffer; the closer you are to the goal the less you s...

Re: Occam's dull and rusty razor

All thought processes are hamster wheels. I have no longer have a use for thought. When the purpose of all of this is realized, the process has been completed. Then there's just happiness and contentment.

Re: applied truth

There's also a reason why gurus remain silent. Ramana Maharshi didn't speak for 7 years after his Enlightenment experience. Pretty much all of the "truth" discussed at this forum is relative, referring to the illusion. Absolute Truth (the knowledge of such being wisdom) is the state transcendent of ...

Re: Is it possible to obtain a fixed truth?

Many philosopher has debated the issue regarding truth along years since the ancient world, however it seems that each of them has a different approach in defining what "truth" is. In the middle ages for example, church is the one set the standard for what "truth" is. To the extent that they deem G...

Re: Big Question 1

In applied ethics, there is perhaps one great question. Why do good people, do bad things? To be clear, the point of the question is not to define "good" or to go down a moral relativistic rabbit hole. Rather, every day there are people who do things that are bad but many of them, if you get to kno...

"Your views is no different from the fundamentalist theists who insist God exists but will not provide sound justifications for his beliefs. In any case, it is impossible for a theist to justify his belief since his ground is based on faith, i.e. beliefs without proof nor rational grounds. This is a...

Re: Occam's dull and rusty razor

Philosophy will remain a futile enterprise until it abandons the absurd criterion for the evaluation of opposing ideas known as "Occam's Razor." The principle attributed to Mr. Ockham was lifted, without credit, from Aristotle, who expressed it thusly: We may assume the superiority, other things be...

Re: The Existential Crisis

" I care nothing of intellectual arguments ." Btw, this forum i.e. "Philosophy Now" is basically about intellectual arguments. From your post above, you share a lot of common views and so-claimed-experiences with posters like "Age" and "DontAskMe" for they believe "they" and their "self" do not exi...
