Did anyone have an irrational fear as a child,or still do
Re: Did anyone have an irrational fear as a child,or still d
When I was growing up I wasn't afraid of much of anything, and I think it helped that I didn't show any fear, people left me alone. When I was in college I found one possible explination, we were studying the Illiad and the battle of Achilles and Hector. Achilles charged in unafraid and Hector was afraid and tried to run, the explination was that Achilles was too stupid to know the danger and Hector, being smarter, understood the risk. However now that I think about it, it might be that Achilles know that a good strong offense was better than a retreating defense. In any event, even now fear doesn't set in with me till after the dust is settled, good or bad? I'm still not sure.

Achillies knew he would win.. and so did hector.thedoc wrote:When I was growing up I wasn't afraid of much of anything, and I think it helped that I didn't show any fear, people left me alone. Hector ran.
Achillies had no match on earth. He was god of war at that time.
In war the attack is always the choice.. even when out numbered.
look at Rommel in North Africa. How many times did he trash the pommies when out numbered..
Using sheer skill and tact.
There is a dry military joke about el alamien
Montgomery won with only 6 to 1 superiority. A British 1st against the Germans.
At the operational level. this is a truism.
Tactically the brits were great soldiers. Not ozzies [rats of tobruk] but ok.
the germans are good at war. But will they produce a monty python? no.

Not a collar, a gabardine shortcoat with a clean white shirt underneath.

Gaberdine?
Surely James we can attire our accoutrements in better than gaberdine. I mean, how American.

The first is my entire strategy, figuratively speaking, I'm outnumbered by most, size, strength, speed. But if I can sneak something in quick and hard, I'll pound them into the ground before they can recover.Hjarloprillar wrote: In war the attack is always the choice.. even when out numbered.

Or I could invent the lethal joke.

The Strangers, for me is the boogie man personified. This scared me so much, especially as it was true.

Night Must Fall
I saw this old movie recently, scarey stuff.

You can almost "smell" it. LOLI got frightened of the burning of man on a fire when watching the movie "The Last of the Mohicans (1992 film)" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_o ... (1992_film)
I still remember it quite well.

You know in Norwegian it's pretty hard to take the bogeyman seriously because he literally translates into "the nose pick man" ^^

a Norwegian wiki-article on the subject says that Bogey could also mean nose-pick in English ^^ but not finding it in translation this may either be misinformation or a lost use of the word, I dunno. Anyways, to hear people say "watch out or the nose-pick man will come and get you!" could hardly set many people very scared, it's rather kind-of a Monty Python/South Park like humor in it.reasonvemotion wrote:hahaha that dispels my fears instantly, where were you when I needed you? to think I have suffered all these years. You know in Norwegian it's pretty hard to take the bogeyman seriously because he literally translates into "the nose pick man" ^^
