And,

Who God is, by another name, is the Mind, Itself.

And,

What God is, by another name, is the Mind, Itself.

Both being the Creator of all and every thing.

I almost feel like I should add "badda boom" after your reply but the reply just didn't quite have the zest to qualify for it. Can you do Schopenhauer impersonations also?

God is an idea [in various conceptions] that is critically necessary to facilitate the survival of the majority of humans by soothing the terrible mental angsts arising from a cognitive dissonance driven by an inherent existential crisis.
  • 1. All humans are programmed to survive as long as possible till the inevitable.
    2. To sustain the above, there is an algorithm that trigger terrible pains upon an awareness of threat and impending of death [especially premature death] to ensure its avoidance or elimination of that threat.
    3. To facilitate all humans to deal with more hidden threats of death, all humans are endowed with intelligence, ego and self-awareness.
    4. Because of 3, humans are made aware of mortality [death] which then triggers 2, i.e. the terrible pains circuit, thus the angsts and the cognitive dissonances.
    5. To avoid paralysis from the fear of death, the majority has the recourse to believe in a higher entity that can assured them of eternal life, i.e. an omnipotent God.
    6. Belief in an omnipotent God provide immediate relief to soothe the terrible persisting angsts.
Thus for anyone who is entrapped by the above existential angsts and find no other ways to relieve the mental pains, the most efficient way is to believe in an omnipotent God that can soothe the pains away in whatever means.

The danger is to avoid a God that condones and commands believers to commit terrible evil and violence in his name in exchange for eternal life.
Thus if any one who want to be or has to be an atheist, the more reasonable God is the God of Christianity which has an overriding maxim to love all even enemies, forgive this and that ..

However, the better move is to be a non-theists if one has the psychological state to do so, but unfortunately the majority at present are not in a position to be non-theists.

Do you mean to say that God is critically necessary to facilitate the survival of the majority of humans by soothing dissonance or do you mean to say that God = "an idea that is critically necessary to facilitate the survival of the majority of humans by soothing dissonance"?

In this case, God is merely a thought, an idea never a real physical entity.
For theists this idea or thought is reified as real and it works for them.

For some, they understand it is not real but nevertheless proceed to believe in a God because it works to soothe their existential angsts.
It is like sexual fantasies of 'person' as 'real' which facilitates sex.

When children talk to certain friends which has an impact on them psychologically and behavior wise, to them it is as real and the physical ones, but to adults, they are merely thoughts in their head.
It is the same with a child conception of Santa as real [adult know it is merely a thought or idea].

It is the same with schizophrenics who realized their "hallucinations" [we know is illusory] as real and some will act upon what the hallucinated figure commands them to do.
