I'd like to think I'm a realist. But as many people, as many opinions.Zarathustra wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 12:52 am Would you say you could be a pessimist similar to Schopenhauer?

Realists are pessimists in the core.nemos wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 1:02 amI'd like to think I'm a realist. But as many people, as many opinions.Zarathustra wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 12:52 am Would you say you could be a pessimist similar to Schopenhauer?

Then drugs will be a pretty good antidote to pessimism?!

So you admit that you don't know what is the meaning of life yet claim that the meaning of life for you is seeking it!?Zarathustra wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 12:45 amI am a seeker. Isn't death part of life? Because without life, there is no death.
What is the meaning of life to you?Zarathustra wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 12:06 pm
If death is part of life, then it seems possible to define the meaning of life.

Exactly. If I knew it, I wouldn't be seeking it, would I?bahman wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 11:04 amSo you admit that you don't know what is the meaning of life yet claim that the meaning of life for you is seeking it!?Zarathustra wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 12:45 amI am a seeker. Isn't it a plain natural and logical statement?

No, it is not a logical statement.Zarathustra wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 11:31 amExactly. I am a seeker. Seeking for the meaning of life is the meaning of life for me.

Do you think meaning relies on immortality?Zarathustra wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 12:06 pm I realised almost all the authors of my philosophical books have died.
If death is for definite end of all the livings, then is there meaning in life?
How do you define death, and meaning of life?
Really?

Yes! The moral of this story is, if you want to live forever avoid philosophy like the plague.Harbal wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 12:33 pmYes, philosophy is a risky business.Zarathustra wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 12:06 pm I realised almost all the authors of my philosophical books have died.
Re: Death and meaning of life
Easy.Zarathustra wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 2:00 pmSo your definition of death is, a process that you cannot define?
Dying is a process, death it not.
Death is nothing. Literally nothing.

Is immortality even possible? Do you believe in it?Sculptor wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 11:48 amDo you think meaning relies on immortality?Zarathustra wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 12:06 pm I realised almost all the authors of my philosophical books have died.

BUT
You avoided the question.
Your opening post more than suggests that because people die, nothing means anything. THis imples that were there such a thing as immortality meaning would exist.
Can we start again?

Re: Death and meaning of life
Because I don't have the meaning now, I am seeking it, until I do.
I thought this was a valid logical statement.
