The problem with Academic Philosophy in its current state is that it has bastardized Philosophy into rigid ideologies which somehow via powerplay facilitated philosophical bastards to dominate.

This was what happened with the aggressive Logical Positivists and their subsequent mutations the rigid Analytical Philosophers.
The typical examples are people like Peter Holmes, Sculptors, Flasherpants and gang who hold very rigid silo views, where for them is 'my way or the highway'.

Thus as the article proposed,
"This presumes that philosophical inquiry ultimately is about the acquisition of knowledge rather than about the development of apt points of view – which presumption, as we’ve seen, is fundamentally mistaken."

To sustain philosophy effectively, there is a need to define 'what is philosophy' which must be in alignment with its inherent state within human nature.
What is Philosophy

Since Philosophy is a natural drive, it is not likely to be defunct.

I don't agree that Philosophy should be handled as an independent field within the academy.
Perhaps the subject of Philosophy is assigned within Sociology and make compulsory as a general and foundational subject in every other field.

In addition, those who have a special interest in philosophy can organize their activities as philosophy-in-general without the divisive ideological thoughts and groups like Sino-American versus Continental and so on.
