The term selfish implies, I think, harming others, or at least disadvantaging them in some way. I'm not doing that.
I know, the term 'selfish' implies other things.

And, what you are doing is harming "others" anyway.
How?
By your behavior 'you' teach younger ones, and by teaching younger ones a selfish behavior, while telling them that it is NOT selfish behavior, harms them, and this is because they are being taught to have the same Wrong BELIEFS.

How am I teaching younger ones? And why is my behaviour selfish?

Younger ones follow and copy what older ones do.

Because you are doing 'it' only for 'you'.

I'm not harming others by avoiding meat, therefore it's not selfish.

Avoiding meat is healthy. In the unlikely event that any kids choose to do so by my example, I'm actually helping them.

I wouldn't dream of killing anybody for food. I just pay for it at the checkout, like everyone else.
Instead of killing a goat he or she can donate that money to very poor widows,
I've never killed a goat in my life, so, according to your scheme, I must owe the widows an absolute fortune by now.

Okay, if this is what you BELIEVE is true, and are NOT CURIOS AT ALL here, then so be it.

Then perhaps you'd like to spell it out in plain English.

How prepared are you?

There is quite a LOT to SHOW and EXPRESS here.

You not eating meat for your OWN personal health and well being only teaches younger ones to not eat meat for their OWN personal health and well being only as well.

Teaching "others" to do things for their OWN personal selves is teaching them to be selfish also, which harms them, as they become selfish as well.

According to "dattaswami", JUST DIE.
Not much future in that.

I'd say that one must reconcile what is known to be true, with conditions. With the Situation. One must integrate the essence that is truth, with conditions, with the situation.

- If the essence is chowing down, then the essence is subject to limitations.
- What kind of essence is subject to limitations? The answer is: none.
- The essence transcends limitations.

For example, Padmasambhava adapted the essence of Buddhism from India for the Tibetan region, by incorporating the situation in Tibet, (which included geography, local customs and religions), into the essence of Buddhism.
