The Dilemma of Americans

Post by Gary Childress »

For us Americans, we seem to be faced with an epic decision of whether or not to vote for either Biden and remain the largest exporter of the means to death and destruction known to history (Also known as the "arsenal of democracy') and possibly end up knee deep in a blood bath of international volatility. Or we can vote for Forrest Trump. Then again, as the poor fellow Forrest Gump liked to say in his own defense in his Hollywood movie, "Stupid is as stupid does." Not sure who is more stupid, the militarist maniacs or the nutty pseudo-evangelical billionaire.

Yikes. So that's the view from Gary's world. Who or what do you imagine a good president to be?

That's easy. Biden voters are stupid. The proof is that they couldn't see what Biden would do to the country and the world, which he has done and is doing.

Functioning folks get their lives sorted out enough to get through the day. The ordering of the universe that they perceive, and that is used for guidance in future perceived choices, will be defended by them, by any means necessary.

Why?

Because that ordering of the universe that is the guiding light for getting through the day, that will be defended by any means necessary, is a chief element comprising Self-Concept. So what?

Well, self-concept is the one concept, the one thing rattling around in everyone’s noggin, that overrides all other concepts. For example, if one happens to possess the self-concept of hero or martyr, then that one's ordering of the universe likely includes self-sacrifice, performed in one form or another, even to the extent of overriding the non-conceptual, inherent, objective human quality that is the will to live.

What is the relevance of self-concept, to this thread?

Well, in addition to self-concept being relevant to perception of the universe, some grown adults actually have child-like views that inform their politics.

Why is this so? Indeed. Likely because the order of their universe has been implanted, and that ordering is made possible by ignoring that which would cause it to change.

Why? As mentioned, in defense of self-concept, the one thing that folks cling to above all other things and concepts, and as the Buddha also noticed, clinging itself is the delusion that causes ignorance in thought and action ... action such as voting for Biden.

Amazing how Forrest Gump could become a billionaire as a builder in the one of the world's toughest real estate markets, eh? Amazing that such a child-like view of the universe is held by a thinking adult.
