Good vibrations in Manhattan

Post by duszek »

I recently treated myself to a novel about friendship between incredible people living in Manhattan, Upper East Side.
Not everything was lovely, there was pot-smoking and loneliness, frustration, failure, homelessness, law enforecement and rich and poor.
Nobody was buried alive, like Alvina in Woodhouse or Carry in Gopher Prairie. Things happen in Manhattan, to be sure. But there is a price to be paid, to be sure.

There was no cruelty, friends tried hard to support each other, failed, tried harder.

It was a lovely experience. It was like staying with these people for a while.

It feels like Chronic City provided a deeply immersive and authentic portrayal of life in Manhattan's Upper East Side, capturing both its beauty and challenges.
