Population
Probably the best recent news for the global and local environment, is that the population of China has diminished in recent years. A result of this is that the elderly sector of the population will increase in proportion, not number. If this is repeated elsewhere it may mean that everyone who is fit in a community must continue working as well as may be. Improving living standards is a vanity that can only be justified by improvements in technology, in particular for health. The idea that populatio can continue to increase and all we have to do is build more houses, is irrational. In future the local community must be self sufficient and environmentally holistic. The mass society and globalised big business is not even democratic.
