The American Republic has Ended, What Next?
The American Republic has Ended, What Next?
Now that political opponents are jailed by the reigning political party in the United States, what will come next?
Will Western European countries follow this trend, as they do with most other American trends and cultural fads?
Why call Western Civilization "democratic" when the people are not allowed to vote for who they want to?

Oh no! Sounds terrible. But what incident are you referring to? I (deliberately) don't consume much news anymore.Wizard22 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 8:49 am Now that political opponents are jailed by the reigning political party in the United States, what will come next?

Re: The American Republic has Ended, What Next?
IN essence this has been true for a while. The people are allowed to choose between candidates approved by and beholden to Wall St. and corporations. And this has been so for most of my life at least. Since I was conscious enough to notice such things. Anyone not approved needs to be a billionaire and even that is not enough to get the media attention to win. Though Ross Perot did get enough attention to make a difference. And Trump without his own money would not have gotten by all the barriers the Republican party and even conservative media threw up against him.Wizard22 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 8:49 am Now that political opponents are jailed by the reigning political party in the United States, what will come next?

That's not a democracy in practice, though everyone gets to go out and vote for one of the two approved candidates.
The twisted thing about this is this kind of thing is open, if lied about, in autocratic nations. Where the ruling party throws out two approved candidates and generally has already decided in advance which one will win, but either way, both are approved.
Here the farce is more nuanced - though really, it's not very nuanced.
Re: The American Republic has Ended, What Next?
What do you envision that to look like in practice; and which country actually does it?
The tickboxes on the ballot are always preselected for the voters and my neighbor Joe is never on the list.
Should the ballot consist of a blank piece of paper so you can write anybody's name on it? Maybe everybody can vote for themselves...

There is, was, and always will be corruption when it comes to government, politicians, rulership, and the like.
However there are degrees to which corruption is tolerable and moderate, versus intolerable and excessive.
I believe, as of now, the fallen American Republic has finally and fatally crossed that line.
Western "Democracy" is no different than "Democracy" in North Korea, where Kim Jong Un receives 100% of the "vote" there.
American Democrats should be ashamed of themselves...but that implies they aren't irresponsible, tyrannical, and ignorant of what they've done.

Did Trump break the American republic or did Trump try to save it? Perhaps both?Wizard22 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 8:49 am Now that political opponents are jailed by the reigning political party in the United States, what will come next?

In binary, there is ultimately good and not good. What happens or ought to happen when the people vote for not good? Should the people be stopped? And what is "not good"?

He seems like a nice guy. Is it not true that the "great America" that he wants to turn us back to also practiced things like segregation and the removal (to put it nicely) of the indigenous natives? We started out as the 13 colonies and then expanded across a continent in the span of a little over 100 years. It was seen as "manifest destiny". In a sense "manifest destiny" was the "it is what it is" before "it is what it is" became a buzzword for corporate leadership.Wizard22 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 12:33 pmhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ7ibdCVGcwGary Childress wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 11:37 amDid Trump break the American republic or did Trump try to save it? How does one argue with "manifest destiny"? How does one tell someone to do something other than "manifest destiny"?

Well at least the legal system seems to be functioning properly.

When the people (the grand jury) examine evidence and find that there is a case to answer, even the big fat elites have to face justice.Wizard22 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 8:49 am Now that political opponents are jailed by the reigning political party in the United States, what will come next?

Europe followed Trump's trend in Germany in the 1930s.It was not then enough to put Hitler in gaol. It ended badly for the whole world.
HOPEFULLY the courts will do their work and the old fat baby man will not be able to seek high office for the rest of his criminal life.
Thus, the work of the Georgia system of justice is protecting and preserving the Republic.
And you ought to be grateful that it seems to be manageing to do its work, despite death threats to the judge, the prosecutors and codefendants.
If you do not think America democratic then what the FUCK do you think a GRAND JURY is?
I would bet you have not got the slightest clue about what has been going on.
Re: The American Republic has Ended, What Next?
Trump crossed that line on Januray 6th. Now he is going to pay for that transgression.Wizard22 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 11:11 am There is, was, and always will be corruption when it comes to government, politicians, rulership, and the like.

Dammit. I wanted him to win next year, just to hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth from wonkers like Sculptor
