The Misery Self

Is the mind the same as the body? What is consciousness? Can machines have it?

The Misery Self

Post by Dontaskme »

Who told you - you are depressed, who told you - you are miserable, who told you - you are a sinner ?
Notice that to be able to ask yourself these questions there has to be two appearances of the concept ( YOU ) within the question. :o

In reality there is not two of you is there, there is only one of you.

If you believe you have a self who is miserable or depressed or a sinner, and those beliefs are making you suicidal ...then why don't you just kill that believed sense of self? ..surely that would be the obvious solution to your obvious problem.

Why commit suicide though? - what exactly do you believe you are attempting to kill here? ...again notice how there are two '(you's) in that question...so what are we talking about when we feel suicidal? ...are we talking about killing dark feelings, thoughts, emotions or other?

Then ask yourself, where are all this dark feelings, thoughts, and emotions, in deep dreamless sleep...where the real you aka the LIGHT is PEACEFULLY and innocently resting within the deep blissful presence of pure selfless awareness being.

Most people are divided beings, thinking they are whole. But their belief that they are divided makes them so. As you pointed out, the typical human condition is to have a sense of self, who we take to be who we are, who we attribute as ourself, but this one is the one that is believed in. The reality is what we really are is the awareness, believing the thoughts that say they are us. And yet, on some level, these thoughts are us as well, or rather, they are movements in the medium which comprises us, as are perceptions.

So to have suicidal thoughts is to be aware of thoughts which want the organism to commit suicide. But to be aware of these thoughts as thoughts is to not believe them. The trouble is to remain from awake awareness with enough detachment to see them as thoughts. Maybe once it is truly know that the ego is a collection of thoughts and habits so much so that a person stabilises in this presence, a person will always see them as thoughts without believing in them, but if that’s so, they probably won’t be having suicidal thoughts anyhow.

Very well put. :D

It makes me wonder though, a human that becomes suicidal, is entirely caused by beliefs, and is part of the ego. Maybe it is almost as if, the ego itself needs to die, and it realises this, but unfortunately, the human that is the awareness cannot see this, as they take themselves to be that ego, and so they think they have to physically die. It’s quite sad put that way.

Yes, well said.
The key to everything is awareness, especially of thoughts and how they drag you into the story of you vs the world.
Its all you can actually do, stay alert, the switch to make this state the new normal has to fall on its own - its like learning to ride a bike, its not something one can learn by only thinking about it, the balance just happens, magically, on its own...

It seems most people are so focussed on the paint that they can’t see they are the canvas. So how can the canvas realise that it is in fact not the paint which covers it? Must all the layers of paint be removed? Or can the canvas somehow become aware of itself as the canvas, speaking metaphorically.

It seems to me that, even if the canvas learns it is in fact the canvas, it can again become covered by the paint. But it doesn’t forget it is the canvas, though at times it can but it will always return to the knowledge that it is the canvas. Can this knowledge that it is the canvas somehow help it see through the paint to its true reflection as canvas? And what is the mirror which can reflect the canvas? Another clean canvas?

Maybe a mirror is a better analogy.

If a mirror is covered in dust, the dust must be removed for it to know itself as the mirror. Must if a small amount of dust is removed, enough for it to see another perfectly reflecting mirror, maybe it can see itself as a mirror as well, but covered in dust. Then it just needs the dust to be blown away.

There are times lately where I can barely see through to see my own reflection as the mirror. It feels like I am the dust, but yet I know I am the mirror from memory.

Very good, and thanks for the well said, great responses.

The cold hard truth of the matter is that what we believe and think exists, does not.

Life is a dream full stop, dreamt by no thing, no one, nothing.

We are a blank screen looking upon an infinite show of empty images inseparable from the SEER. The blank screen of SEEING being the only source of all things SEEN, and the place to where all SEEN things return.

The key is to realise there is no difference between watching a movie on a tv or cinema screen, and watching the movie of our personal life as we believe and think we exist in realtime spacetime duality.

And just as we may be horrified at a violent tv movie, or cry at a sad love story...we know it was just a simulation appearing within us...in that it's not real...and so it's the same with our waking life movie, sadness arises, horror and despair arises, but they are NOT WHO WE ARE...in essence...but it takes a really strong gut to be able to see this...not everyone can stomach the stark reality that is the nondual nature of reality. And just as there are some people who will walk out of the cinema or turn off the tv in disgust at what they are watching, the same is true in this waking life dream, in that it's not for the faint of heart...life is not what it seems, and some people are more prone to depression and suicide than others. Awakening of sorts, just means the consciousness and the contents of consciousness are known for what they really are, until there is a seeing through the illusion of a personal self to see there is only self which is no self...which is the entrance into the real nondual truth of what's actually really going on here in reality.
