Now and then, I also play a bit of golf. Do you?
The last time I played golf was at Winton Woods in Cincinnati, long before the existence of Ouzo. There were a number of us who played golf that Saturday or Sunday afternoon, and after we finished, we played liar's poker in the clubhouse. I only remember the last hand we played. I had two or three of a number that was bid early, but I immediately challenged it (which is the first time I ever used that ploy), and I challenged every bid thereafter, no matter what the number was. It finally came down to two players bidding against each other on the earlier number I had first challenged, with the rest of us challenging every bid they made. Finally, after the bidding had reached a high level, instead of challenging, I increased the bid by two levels. I knew it was a winning bid, and that any higher bid was a losing bid. I remember the feeling of omniscience that can only be compared to God, knowing exactly what every player had in his hand, without actually seeing his dollar bill. Of course, everybody challenged my bid, but when I showed my dollar bill and called out the exact quantity of the number that every other player had, it's as if my winning bid had totally crushed their collective ego, and it was the last hand of liar's poker that we played.
