Statistically more men are atheists than women.

How about that? I wonder why that is.

Maybe it's because men don't give birth.

Is birth a religious expirience that I don't know about?

Is it just me, or are most of the hard-core religious nutbars also men?

Maybe men are just more prone to taking extreme positions than women are?

More American men claim to be atheists than American women claim to be atheists.

That's probably the best answer, tho atheism is not necessarily an 'extreme' position.

All women are non-religious because they have no actual concept of Morality, and no thoughts of their own.

All women believe whatever the alpha male tells them to believe, no matter how stupid or nonsensical it may be.

Absolutely. Have you seen the film Mama Mia? It works on a farm.

Mamma Mia! wrote:
20-year-old Sophie Sheridan (Amanda Seyfried) lives with her mother Donna (Meryl Streep) on the small Greek island Kalokairi where Donna runs a hotel called Villa Donna. Sophie is planning to marry her fiance Sky (Dominic Cooper)and wants her father to be present to "give her away," but does not know who he is. After reading Donna's diary from 20 years ago, she concludes he is one of three men: Sam Carmichael (Pierce Brosnan), Harry Bright (Colin Firth), or Bill Anderson (Stellan Skarsgård). Without telling her mother and fiancé, Sophie mails invitations to all three ("I Have a Dream"), and hopes to find out which is her father. Sophie tells her two best friends, Ali (Ashley Lilley) and Lisa (Rachel McDowall) about her potential fathers ("Honey, Honey"). All three men come to the island, thinking Donna asked them to come, and Sophie hides them upstairs in the old goat house, getting them to agree not to reveal she wrote to them pretending to be her mother Donna. Other guests have also arrived from the harbor:Donna's longtime friends, single,fun-loving writer Rosie (Julie Walters) and rich three-time divorcée Tanya (Christine Baranski).

Stealing Beauty wrote:
For 20 years many visitors have come to the villa on an Italian hilltop owned by an English artist. Lucy, a 19-year-old American, was last there four years ago and wants to meet up again with the young Italian who kissed her and corresponded for a while. And she has brought the diary of her late mother filled with enigmatic poems that suggest Lucy was conceived on that hilltop. Lucy wants to find out if Daddy is the Italian war correspondent who wrote to her mother for 20 years. Then again Daddy could be the dying English playwright in residence or the artist who uses a chainsaw on tree trunks for his sculptures. The three, of course, have no idea that Lucy is there to solve a mystery. They, the artist's wife, daughter of that wife and the daughter's American lover are most intrigued by Lucy's virginity. Those polls aren't about atheism. They're whether or not you believe in evolution, and whether it's just evolution or evolution with a little help from God. You don't have to be an atheist to believe that evolution happened without a god physically stacking the deck behind the scenes. A lot of scientists are also religious, they just keep their gods and their science separate.

Also, the gender poll is from 1991; I wouldn't be surprised if there's a higher percentage of women who believe in evolution now, since there is a higher percentage of women pursuing higher education and moving into scientific studies.

Women are statisticly more insecure, naive and group thinkers, as they have a bit lower rationallity than men.

Most likely because men are inherently better manipulators and strive for higher dominance.

Wow this is pretty offensive!!!

As an atheist woman I would have hoped for more enlightenment and a lot less stereotyping from my male counterparts. I am outspoken about my non belief and all of the influential men in my life are believers so following an alpha male at least in my experience is a theory that is thrown out of the window. I think I came into atheism much the same way as many men have. It begins with questioning your upbringing specifically if you were raised to believe in some sort of religion, and end up concluding that there isn't any sufficient evidence to support the claim that a god or supernatural forces exist.

There could be some validity to the differences in men and women that creates the disproportionate number of male atheist. Men tend to be more logical where as women tend to lead by emotions although I don't think this is a drastic difference between the sexes. I can't speak to this topic with any sort of authority on the subject but I also won't entertain the notion its caused by women being the "lesser" sex.

how's that for logic?

from what i can tell is that if men disagree with the religion in which they were brought up they just abandon it and become atheists or at least de facto atheists

women instead move to a more relaxed and inclusive version of the same religion

my brothers and i grew up going to a fire and brimstone nut case southern baptist church

i mean the preacher actually claimed from the pulpit that the bible forbids gun control laws

when my brothers decided that its bullshit they just stopped going and if that causes a few shouting matches with the parents thats the parents problem not theirs

my older brother and my twin brother are both atheists

i still go with my parents i just skip the sermon and look after the little kids

i still consider myself a baptist but not a southern one

if you want theological labels i guess i am a primitive universalist baptist aka no heller baptist

the pattern seems to hold with many of my peers

the boys decide that the old time religion is a load of bullshit and become atheists

the girls adopt a more inclusive less strident less fundamentalist approach and are less willing to condemn everyone who disagrees with them to hell but do not actually become atheists

I think Hexhammer is correct. Due to the nature of our relationships I suspect that women are more attuned to the desire for justice in the afterlife. More men think they are god because they get to be god more often in their lives.

Narcissism is rampant in our western societies and is the chief source of atheism.
