Newspeak - Freespeak
News today is disseminated by a various forms of media. Amongst them is the facebook type web sites.
There are three main ways the public can be informed of events and opinion.
In an extreme authoritarian society news broadcasts may be fairly accurate, but yet doctored and selective so as to provide a slanted message.
But we now have a neutral form of facebook 'news' direct from members of the public and with no vetting so that it is impossible to judge what is true or false. This is the epitome of anarchism.
Against both of them there are the more regular sources of news, in newspapers and from TV producers, who are expected to take some care in verifying news. No doubt this is met with some cynicism.
Clearly the only form of news reporting in altruist democracy should be the last.
But that is only a subset of the overall question of Free Speech.
This is generally dealt with in one dimension of free and good, fettered and bad.
A three dimensional approach is necessary.
Where arbitrary untruth and outright lies are the public norm - if indeed they could be - the fabric of society itself would be in danger. It is chaos. No stable society can cope with a constant lie.
Where more or less stable society is concerned, there are three alternatives, as touched on.
In a tyranny, or bigoted authoritarian state, outright constant falsehood is impossible, but a manipulation of truth and dissemination of slanted truth would be the norm.
Anarchistic society would indeed vaunt free speech and have no standards for it apart from outright slander and libel.
Altruistic society would necessarily consider the public and social good. Therefore there would be freedom only of discussion about all and anything, including the language that might be employed in polite speech.
