Unless you promote the system

Come, now, you most careful layers of T-squares,
You tedious extractors of square roots and cube roots,
You stooping squinters through microscopes,
You merciless probers and meticulous dissectors,
You would-be plotters of the curves of life,
Mathematically sure or else unbelieving;
You scorners of all but what mechanics
Can drearily prove: I challenge you,
Even in your pride, even in your own citadel,
Using those very instruments in which alone
You have such almighty faith,
Draw for me now the design, the plan
Of the universe; tell me how this earth, a star, is hung,
Diurnally turning for the refreshment of darkness and dew;
With your unfailing knowledge instruct me now
Who sensitively fringed the retiring gentian's beauty;
Or with your calipers, infallibly certain, bound for me
The mystic wild parabola of love.

When I had
No supper my eyes dined.

When I had no eyes I listened.
What did you do when you had neither supper nor eyes?
Then you hear your tummy rumble and mumble what me worry?

Archibald MacLeish
MacLeish’s birthdate confirms heard echoes of Jack London that Hemingway forsook.

“There is an ecstasy that marks the summit of life, and beyond which life cannot rise. And such is the paradox of living, this ecstasy comes when one is most alive, and it comes as a complete forgetfulness that one is alive.
This ecstasy, this forgetfulness of living, comes to the artist, caught up and out of himself in a sheet of flame; it comes to the soldier, war-mad in a stricken field and refusing quarter; and it came to Buck, leading the pack, sounding the old wolf-cry, straining after the food that was alive and that fled swiftly before him through the moonlight.”
― Jack London, The Call of the Wild

Excellent poem. One of the best I read here. Never heard of Robert Pinsky; now I know who he is. Can't quite figure out why it's called "Samurai Song". Good poems are still nice to read and ponder!

YELLOW COLOUR WITH WHITE
BEHIND THE TREES
THEY ARE FIRNS
THE FLIES STILL FLY
SUMMER IS NOT YET DEAD
THE CLIMATE IS CHANGING
THE SEASONS TOO LIKE ALWAYS
SOUNDLESS INSIDE THE FAN OF A LAPTOP
DUCKS GO BY AS A CAR ENGINE SCREAMS
THE TOTAL POINTLESSNESS TO IT ALL IS OVERWHELMING

They are
perverse mascots
of a system and people
who have become completely insane.

the people had
had enough of

Time speaks to me
like a restless man
of too many thoughts
thoughts that are fraught
with knowing too much
and so little
i take my time
it abides by me
as i sip on the essence
of lost memory
it keeps me warm
and i get pittance
to labour on
time's piss ant pawn
Is time a man?
We know it not
events occurring
flicker here
flicker
flicker there
missed her
Mr who?
Miss?
Misses?
I like you,
we did both, you and i
did and our soul did
cry
in our youth, masters we were
but now sent adrift
seeking the shore
and i ashore you not
this shipwrights knot
lets caulk the seams
breathe
for we will sink
with our dreams
to fathom below
deeper we'll go
into the fathoms
darker still
where light retreats
and glazes our gleam
blinding us again
the time
the light
that emits
no more
usurped
the mass
the priest
the chalice
bedded now
into a
watery
ground.

Bush dumb wrecking ball was good for a 9/11 aftermath
Obama was good post Bush to smooth things out and create equilibrium
Though he continued and enhanced the project
Trump is a bull in a china shop
Smashing into people and things
The system puts up those
With the qualities
Both positive and negative
That gets it to where it wants to get
The people in this are the audience
And sounding board to work off of and grow

You Have Gone To Join Grandad In The Sky
We Will Surely Miss You Yet Know
That The Light In You Is Now In Us
Your Charming Grace And Wonderful Face
Will Be In Our Hearts For Ever
Another ELEGY

Granny, wonderful Granny
They planted you in the same plot as Grandad
God knows it's not what you would have wanted
You couldn't stand each other when you were both alive
Who can blame you, he was a grumpy old bastard.
Nice, let me try something with it:

Gran you are dead
They've put you in with Grandad
The two of you will be cosy, I hope
Though you divorced, we decided
To re-unite you both, in the earth
The soil will break you both down
Into a mix of different particles and substances

Power was born
And the people too
They fitted together quite nicely
In time people became a burden to power
So they were let go, set adrift to do what they pleased
But then it turned out that the people were needed again
A massive global war was coming up and numbers were needed to be killed
Power created some cockaneme story and the people were quickly on the march

I left and drove to a store
waiting outside in the rain
the doors opened and I went in
walking around trying things on
back in the car where to now
drove south and entered ikea
walking around the store
back home after coffee
drove around aimlessly for a while
entered the library then left
went home went to the shops
ate pizza drank wine went to bed
woken by snoring got up went online
