Is that a good 'WOW', or 'What a tacky, tasteless, one-step-up-from-a-trailer 'architectural' abomination' kind of 'WOW'?
You finally figured out how to spell architectural. Now if only you can mature.

You are so stupid you probably think it's a spelling error. At least I have enough intelligence to tell when something is a typo or just idiocy.
No you are the one who is so stupid. "Typo" It is a spelling error. "Enough intelligence" Where? You caught yourself and I gotcha.

If I'm afflicted, it's due to hostile people such as you who can't stand Americans. But I understand your foolishness so you really can't get to me. So your stupid efforts are futile.

These images are too large to imbed given the stupid, primitive software here that apparently no one who runs the place gives a shit about upgrading to bring it remotely within standards of the late second decade of the 21st century, so I’ll just post the links:

Speaks for themselves, I think, in terms of comparative cultures … I bet I know which one Walker would prefer!

Thank you my friend. I can say so far that you have an astute sense of aesthetics.
davidm wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2017 7:14 pmI also did not know about that Picasso quote on Islamic calligraphy; assuming it's true, it's quite the compliment from the greatest master of the visual arts.
Yes it says much about Islamic Calligraphy.
davidm wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2017 7:14 pmIslamic culture in general, historically, has made great contributions.
Yes, this is a very interesting and vast subject and you seem to have some knowledge of it. I appreciate and thank you for your objectivity on this. May be later, on another thread, if God wills, we might get another opportunity to exchange on this.
davidm wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2017 7:14 pmHere's what your hero Erdogan
Please, allow me my friend to clarify my position here so that I be not misunderstood. It is the word "hero" here that I think can be misinterpreted.

I have much respect for President Erdogan for what he has done; and like all Muslims, he is my brother in Islam. But I do not forget that no one has power to benefit or harm me except God, the Almighty and I put all my trust in Him alone.

Allah, The Almighty says in the Holy Quran:

And if Allah afflicts you with adversity, then none can remove it except Him, and if He intends for you any good, then none can repel His bounty. He causes it to reach whom He wills of His slaves. And He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful. [Quran, interpretation of meaning 10:107]

If Allah helps you, then none can overcome you; and if He forsakes you, who is there who can help you after Him? And on Allah let the believers put their trust. [Quran, interpretation of meaning 3:160]

davidm wrote:He said it was "against nature" to treat men and women equally.
Can you please give some references for the statements that you made about President Erdogan? I would like to analyze its source and if it be a reliable source then in the context in which it occurred.

Anyway, I do not know if he said that, but I agree with this statement, and I would go further and add that it is not just against nature but also against common sense to treat them as the same! We should be more considerate and compassionate towards women because they are in general physically weaker than man. As I already said, women should be protected and not be expected to perform heavy duties like a man. This is common sense. Let us take the example of sports. In nearly all sports there is a category for men and one for women. For example, take tennis, if tennis was mixed, such that men and women could play singles against each other on a professional level, then Serena Williams or Martina Navratilova would never have won even one Grand Slam title! It would be unfair towards women to treat them like men. On the same line of reasoning, we do not treat children like we treat adults or the blind as the seeing, or the mentally challenged like the intelligent. This is how normal people endowed with common sense think. Does anyone here think otherwise?
davidm wrote:And education? He has banned the teaching of evolution in elementary schools.
That is good. I think at elementary school it is too soon to teach kids how to critically examine the theory of evolution. When they are mature enough intellectually, I think they should be taught how to critically address this theory. Before being able to critically examine evolution, they should be taught real science first. But I think President Erdogan has already thought of it, so there is no need for you to trouble yourself with that.

Now my friend, I think this was rude! But it is ok, I understand we all make mistakes.

Conde Lucanor wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2017 3:42 amI do think Moorish influence in Spain is a fact and that there's a good possibility this extended to musical forms, although as you mention, there may be other influences as well.

Averroes wrote: If I may ask you, how did you feel when you listened to the recitation of the Holy Quran?
I'm not religious, so my interest is purely formal. As I said, it immediately reminded me of the sound and spirit of Cante Jondo. Having Spanish descent, I always loved this music. Although not exactly a singer of Cante Jondo, but of some version of it called Coplas, Antonio Molina will remain as the best ever. He was famous for his long falsettos:
I find what you said above to be very interesting. I do not know how many people would have made this relation so quickly. As I told you, I would not have allowed myself to make that relation. And if you had not made that relation, I would not have dug and found out what I found out! I think it is something to think about. If you allow me my friend, I would like to advise you to listen to some more of the Holy Quran, and observe for yourself if you get some other powerful insights as you got previously. I get tremendous insights myself when I listen and meditate on the Holy Quran.

Thank you for the song, I listened to it to completion. I will be checking some more Cante Jondo as from now and in doing so, I will be remembering my brothers and sisters in Islam, i.e. the medieval Spanish Muslims, who were persecuted to the uttermost of persecution by barbaric savages, and died in such a state; yet they kept to the Holy Quran to the best of their ability and devised ingenuous ways to keep the memory of the Holy Quran alive, one form or another, in their lives.

There is one more thing that I would like to share with you and that is closely related to our present discussion. I had asked you how you felt when you listened to the Holy Quran previously and the reason for this is that people feel intense positive emotions when they listen to the recitation of the Holy Quran.
Here is a video of an 80 year old Spanish man hearing the Holy Quran for the first time (2 min): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi7bfvR8gaU

There are a lot of such videos on YouTube, here are some samples if you would feel like furthering the investigation:

1. Reaction of babies (3 min): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4slRE3V2y9s
2. Reaction of a fetus (5 min): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gUxJKARWUs
3. Reaction of a little girl (3min): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYGKR7fk_vk
4. Reaction of a BBC reporter (2min): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wbh-S5uq8SY

As I already proposed, I reiterate that if you need more links on the recitation of the Holy Quran, you are most welcomed.Thank you for the exchange my friend.

I just watched a couple of those and I'm not surprised. Music does have an effect on people and I can recall being moved by all types of music, although for some reason, it seems, sacred music gets the deepest emotions. Of course, for me the reason has very little to do with the religious content or motives behind these works, and in fact the states of being pursued by music of different religions may be achieved while also differing widely in form. Have you ever listened to the chants of Tibetan monks?:
