Esoteric Dimensions of Music

Post by WanderingLands »

Just some food for thought to share around about the esoteric dimensions within music.

Cosmic Octave: http://www.planetware.de/octave/cosmic-octave.html

Excerpt:
In 1978 Hans Cousto, a Swiss mathematician and musicologist discovered the natural law of the "Cosmic Octave" as the link between different kinds of perodically occurring natural phenomena, such as the orbit of the planets, the weather, colors, rhythms and tones.
The website explores the various tonal properties of the planets, the astronomical/astrological occurrences, and chakras. Also has information about tuning forks.

Greek Esoteric Music Theory Charts - John Opsopaus: http://web.eecs.utk.edu/~mclennan/OM/BA/GEM/index.html

An online book written by John Opsopaus, which goes deep into the various musical charts that the Ancient Greeks were said to have devised. Goes into the planetary relations to musical notes and scales, as well as tying it in to the various Greek deities.

In relation to that online book, I would also suggest looking into Pythagoras, who was an ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician who came up with the concept of the 'Harmony of the Spheres' - the idea that the world was music, which goes into the musical notes being represented as numbers and fractions (also present in Just Intonation).

There's one person who goes into that, and that is James Hopkins. He devises monochords and gongs out of the studying and inspiration of the concept of the 'Harmony of the Spheres'.

It's an interesting subject indeed, I have gathered quite some info about it and wrote an article about it on my blog.

You can find that article here: http://www.roelhollander.eu/en/blog-mus ... -tonality/

Perhaps that is what you were looking for?
