On Art

"Art is not a noun but more a verb, an action - the transformation of sexual energy, life's energy, expressing itself thru the joy, the bliss of creation; the feeling of existence penetrating the entire being...a transcendence of the mundane into the realm of mystery."

A somewhat flamboyant passage I wrote once upon a time... one that is arguable for those that enjoy arguing, and one that may not connect with many folks at all.

Art is never a pat answer. Art defined is as broad as the canvas attainable and just as high. Art is akin to the word 'god'... everyone has an opinion on what it is but so few actually know, but they do know when they see it... like pornography.

Art, god and pornography... they all originate from mankind's passion. When we become passionate about something we enter a world of art, a world of god where we become the creator. A world of creation cannot exist without a level of sexual energy.

Sexual energy takes on many forms depending upon the perception of those that experience it and the time/place they experience those surges of energy rushing through the body.

An artist may use that energy to express their feelings through painting or drawing. A landscape that symbolizes tranquility... a placid lake, perhaps a grove of trees fully leafed out... clouds lazily crossing the blue skies... the sexual energy is not frenetic... it is calming and serene. There are the artists that express the energy through portraiture... capturing the subtleties of a persons face... their eyes (what do they see?), the lines on the face, the structure of the nose, the lips and what they have tasted... it's almost like touching the person without laying a finger upon the person at all... touching each part with a delicateness that is translated from that base sexual energy. Then again there are the subjective painters... those that translate their sexual energies into color vibrations, color variations, structural emptiness that is only defined by color-space(s). No matter the subject the passion to paint, to create from nothing a masterwork on some level stems from the sexual energy.

The word 'energy' is not how we may usually visualize energy - machines pumping at full power, the exhaust of heat steaming into the air, the noise at full throttle hell bent to create... not express, and that is a difference. Expression of passion is as varied as the desire and tools to re-create that passion, and each person uses their passion and tools that best express their passion.

God the creator - it says so in the first words of the Bible: "In the beginning God created...." I left off the rest. I don't feel it's all that important after that. As a matter of fact, I think that is all the Bible needs to say. Creation is the manifestation of consciousness into matter... a most godly act. No wonder it is said "Man is created in the image of God." God is said to be the original creator and creating is something that man is capable of doing, and indeed does daily, on one level or another. Creating with our hands through our minds, objects seemingly come from a nowhere we cannot point to and say "There is where this came from!" Passion took mankind's head and filled it with desire - the human need to create... just like god we imitate creating on our own level, with our own capability.

All passion leads to expression - some of it is deemed 'good' and others 'bad'... the old yin/yang steps into the picture. There are those that enjoy the feeling of passion and re-create from those feelings objects of beauty, words that comfort, music that enraptures... and then there are those that perceive their passion as something dark and mysterious. They create dark and mysterious worlds themselves... they have no choice - their passions stir those dark places, where the shadows fly up like dust and veil the beauty. In those dark places light is at a minimum, grown dim by past experiences, past conditioning stifling the light.

Writing with the impulses of passion stirring through us, we may write wondrous loving passages that the reader may feel transported into an ideal relationship. There are those writings that express these passions with no concern about loving, only self-love - expressing only what the individual needs to fulfill their passion - to hell with others, they become objects.. there is no other human need, no other persons viewpoint... a less than ideal relationship that centers only on the passion of one, a dark art struggling to find light - an oxymoron. How can an art created in darkness still express that same darkness in the light? The light would change the art... and not always for the better. The light would show the nakedness of the art - no shadows to hide the dark expressions.

Light is all that we rely upon.... our original need. Even the blind sees something... all is not blank. Light gives perception... light gives meaning, light gives warmth, light is the ultimate giver. If one has seen the true light, one gives truly of themselves... one expresses their passion brightly and without shame or embarrassment. Light tranquilizes the darkness and all is seen as calm... all is seen as beautiful... all is as it should be.

I once read this definition of art - "Art is non-utilitarian." It is true that we cannot feed our hunger with a painted canvas... we cannot quench our thirst with a granite sculpture... we are unable to protect ourselves from the freedom of weather with a poem... and we certainly cannot clothe ourselves with music... albeit there are many that dream of doing so. Art serves no practical purpose, per se. We can still exist without a painting on our walls, we can continue to laugh and enjoy the company of others without any poetry, we can continue to reproduce our species without the beauty of a well-played piece on a piano.

But art does give us something of the mystery of life... not a scary who-done-it mystery, but the essence of something beyond our mundane lives. Art, altho non-utilitarian, does open new doors within us and aids in our becoming more filled - fulfilled with a quality that stirs our passions... that invites the godly within and floods us with images that we have created within and now have the ability to translate into art created with our own perceptions of passionate energy. Passion fucks us and from that fertilized seed our art grows and gives birth to a new dimension of our lives.

"Drink deeply from the cup of passion and celebrate your fulfillment
In your drunkenness, where the light is brightest, translate
the beauty you see with the tools you know best
and your art will be imbibed with the images of the eternal mystery that will attract others like bees to a flower in full bloom."

Very well written.

This is the type of expression of a experience; an insight that THIS IS THE TYPE OF POST THIS FORUM NEEDS.

You show depth and breadth of an enlightened, philosophical individual.

It doesn't surprise me that there have not been ANY responses.

'Willie' Wiltrack, my friend! Thank you kindly once again for your support and your brilliant good taste in writing, ;)

I bring it on myself, Bill... toss mtmynd into these type of crowds who just don't understand me. Some may refer to this activity as being a glutton for dead silence... nothing said, nothing lost.

As long as my words reach you, it is but the beginning of a handful of readers... and so it goes.

Gracias! Good to see you around...
