Do you take anything for granted?

Post by Philosophy Explorer »

It seems to get along in life, you must make assumptions so as to have a place to start, at least, and make adjustments later on if need be. So one of the questions is where would you start making assumptions?

I start with the assumption that people are telling me the truth about what they believe, it's only when I have had sufficient confirmation, either way that I will keep or change my assessment of them.

Why is it important that one should believe what one says? I find that attitude boring. The thing that everything depends on is whether one investigates in high spirit. Philosophy proceeds by phantasmata, not by what one already believes in. That is its essence.
