I used to do that. Not the anniversary thing, but the copy-and-save on my hard drive. That was back ten years ago and before, when I was really proud of one or another of my creations. But then nobody wanted to read them later, not even me. So I stopped doing that.

I think there is a special additive value to publication that increases one's own esteem of one's own literary work. This is why half the nation keeps on writing fiction and sending it in to short story or poetry competitions. The miracle! A new brainchild is born, let us rejoice! A king was born today. But I wasn't born yesterday. ETC.
