Facebook

Post by vegetariantaxidermy »

I've noticed lately that ALL of my Facebook 'friend suggestions' (those annoying things that you can't get rid of) are for muslims, and not from my country or even English-speaking countries. I'm not exaggerating either. It's EVERY 'suggestion'! Why the fuck would FB think I want to 'friend' them? Is this a pathetic attempt by Facebook at social engineering? Does it seriously think that Facebook will turn the world into one big group-hugging love fest? Pathetic.

Could be based on your browser cache, so maybe try clearing your history and clearing the web browser cache, but I doubt they'd use that for something like friend suggestions. More likely it's based on the pages you like. But how do you know the people it's suggesting to you are 'muslim', exactly? Just obvious by their homepage/names?

I never 'like' any pages on Facebook. In fact I hardly do anything with Facebook. I only opened it for business reasons and couldn't work out how to only open a business page without the personal page (if there is a way). I certainly don't go aroung 'liking' muslim pages. I have exactly three 'friends' on there. They are a nuisance because it means they know everything I do on Facebook (such as arguing with stupid people). There are some interesting pages that I like though, with good discussions, but certainly not any muslim ones. I find it bizarre to say the least.
Oh, and as for knowing they are muslim, the hijabs are a bit of a clue. Plus the fact that both male and female suggestions are from countries that are mostly muslim. Often the names aren't in Roman lettering, so you would think that would eliminate them in the first place!

Yeah. Well, I know when I like this libertarian page on facebook, I suddenly got a whole bunch of friend suggestions from people who worked or were associated with the libertarian party. Likewise, it knew where I worked and suggested other people who worked there, even though I had no mutual friends to them. It's more likely just the algorithm screwing up, as that also seemed to happen for me.

Must be something like that (or it could be Facebook being do-gooding tossers :) ).

Strange but all this online socializing is making me less sociable and I'm not even subscribed to FB or Twit only philosophy forums. It's only after having read much of what goes on these kind of sites that my low opinion of people went much lower. Ah! the delights of communicating with one's fellow man....speaking of which whatever happened to Harbal whose one liners were the toast of philosophy forums?

For sanity's sake it's best to read the FB articles and ignore the comments, but the lunacy can be compelling like a car crash!

I started to hate facebook when it all of sudden got into my computer, and displayed all photos of mine on my facepage. It was mayhem! Because most photos were either porn harnessed from other sites, or me and my gf prancing naked around the house, doing unspeakable acts to cockroaches, dustmites and little white furry bunnies. Oh, yes, and dinner buns. Boy, they are sexy when you know how to arouse their true inner feelings of love.

... and, btw, it never asked me for permission to do it, nor gave I it any permission to do it, or instructions. The algorhything just thought by itself it would be a good idea to alienate my old classmates, friends and lovers from me. I don't know what the f it had in mind when it without permission or instruction displayed all my photos.

My own mother does not talk to me any more.

I only use it to keep in touch with a grandfather, and nothing more, insistent on nothing more. I tried running a page for two philosophy groups, but never quite figured it out. Plus, it loaded all of -1-'s nude picks onto my page, and I didn't know how to delete them off.... boy was I pissed. Only now do I understand, the algorithm knew we would one day meet.

I'm sure everyone else have your pics too. It is how the internet works these days, embarrass you prior to ever meeting.

I don't have any pictures on there. I'm pretty sure FB doesn't have access to everyone's personal files.
