Psychoanalysis connection with politics

Both Slavoj Zizek, being a fan of Lacan and Jordan Peterson, being a fan of Jung both makes a big case of psychoanalysis as well as modern politics. And there seem to be some connection there. In the interview in PN with Anja Steinbauer Zizek even suggests re-reading of Hegel and the boys with psychoanalysis in the back of the mind. What's the connection? Psychoanalysis says stuff about peoples personal behaviour, by themselves and as a member of a group of people. But how to connect Psychoanalysis with the flower power movement in 1968? Lacan was more or less on the barricades himself.

That kind of has interested me before. Sarte was also an "upper class bolshevik" in the 60's as well as saying a lot about the individual in "being and nothingness". And Heigegger turned nazi, something I can find no trace of in "Sein und Zeit".

What's the connection?

As far as I understanding Freuds emphasis on Psychoanalysis was an extension of his studies on human sexuality. Human sexuality breakdowns to a binary code of "Penises and Vaginas" corresponding to 1 and 0 in nature. In these respects we can observe an inherent dualism that is equal in definition to the nature of relationships as a constant source of "movement" between individuals.

In these respects, Freuds psychoanalysis was founded within a dualism resulting in a perpetual movement as polarity, with this polarity between the sexes never being resolved due to its foundations as a struggle between the sexes.

Hegel's observation of a triadic element, founded within all dualisms, enables a synthesis of these dualisms into a third possible variable which simultaneously justifies both itself and the inherent dualisms it is founded on. In simpler terms a triadic observation of structure enables a source of movement and stability.

We can see this in real life where a couple often times has a power struggle and flows back and forth until one party breaks it off. If the couple "synthesize" through having a child as a third element, this power struggle is further mediated and they are less likely to break up.


Psychoanalysis says stuff about peoples personal behaviour, by themselves and as a member of a group of people. But how to connect Psychoanalysis with the flower power movement in 1968? Lacan was more or less on the barricades himself.

The flower power can be observation partially as the result of the inherent dualism Freud observed within the sexes. Remember that the 60's and 70's were about a sexual revolution in which sex was no longer limited to procreative function within society but rather an expression of "love" between individuals. The problem occurs as a polarity results as the third element of the relationship, as child, no longer exists as a mediator and in due course a struggle between man and woman occurs as all dualism result in a flux between entities.

The flower power movement created the same beast it was fighting against through a perpetual act of "individuation" rather than "unification through "mediation as procreation".

There are alot of way this connection may be observed:

You have to remember that Communism, Americanism, and Nazism were part of a triadic structure of the current Technocracy we see today...Heidegger coined these terms.

Americanism technologicalized consumption (human body), Communism did the same for the spirit (collective having spiritual priority), Nazism for the intellect (machinery for measurement and warfare).

Sarte can be argued as strictly observing the progressive nature within the modern world as a necessity where progression allows being and non-being is an absence of progression. "Human beings are condemned to be free" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Paul_Sartre) and part of this freedom is inevitably bound within the nature of progess itself.

"Sartre's philosophy lent itself to his being a public intellectual. He envisaged culture as a very fluid concept; neither pre-determined, nor definitely finished; instead, in true existential fashion, "culture was always conceived as a process of continual invention and re-invention."

This fluidity can be observed in embodying the inherent technological progress we see today along with the corresponding moral and cultural flux expressed through this progression.

In these respects Sarte and Heidegger can be viewed as duals here Sarte emphasized a spiritual element and Heidegger an intellectual one.

By the time that a politician had psychoanalysed themselves as it relates to their political convictions they would have necessarily already lost track of both how and in which direction to steer their ship.
