Yup. That's pretty much what they do, Poor Bill.

What can I say? Your argument is fascinating, tightly reasoned, for sure.Bill Wiltrack wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2017 3:33 pm A wall can keep you out - also keep you in.

(Bob can vouch for the mystical properties of these words that can turn people into prophets in their own minds.)

Amazeballs. Also, underwear keeps stuff out and keeps stuff in too, just like walls, right? Except farts, those go where they choose and neither underwear nor walls will prevent it. That's some serious food for thought.Bill Wiltrack wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2017 3:33 pm .

Please give us your important philosophical insights into farts at your earliest convenience Bill or Bob, whichever one you are.

Ah! Some very good points are being made in this thread!
I don't know what kind of farts you've had experience with, but I've never known one to go through a wall.FlashDangerpants wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2017 7:25 pm Also, underwear keeps stuff out and keeps stuff in too, just like walls, right? Why do farts smell the way they do?
So that deaf people can enjoy them too.

That is the practical application, but ignores the symbolic and philosophical aspect of walls.Bill Wiltrack wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2017 3:33 pm .

Actually, just the opposite...I was hoping for some practical applications delivered by the reflective active membership here at The PhilosophyNow Forums.
What I provided was the the symbolic and philosophical aspect of walls. Don't forget ffs, this is a philosophy forum!

Walls are typically for feeling safe, yes? (I'm guessing that's the kind you're speaking of, as opposed to walls that support roofs.)
But walls obstruct views and access, yes?
It seems logical that broader views and unhindered access would expand understanding, thereby possibly vanquishing many fears that erected the walls in the first place.
So what is the payoff for keeping the walls? Familiarity? Control? At what cost?

To keep you up to date with technology Lacewing, walls don't obstruct views any longer.Lacewing wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2017 3:11 am Walls are typically for feeling safe, yes? (I'm guessing that's the kind you're speaking of, as opposed to walls that support roofs.)

"So what is the payoff for keeping the walls? Familiarity? Control? At what cost?" You can ask Trump that question
(btw it wouldn't work - think about all the prison breaks including El Chapo).
