Greetings fellow thinkers
Marcus Aurelius' 'Meditations' was my entry into philosophy but it led immediately to Buddhism over a decade ago and I've been a follower of Dharma ever since. Those were my 'seeking' days, but recently I've developed an interested in the history of philosophy. So I'm not looking for a philosophy. And for some reason the history of the Roman empire is interesting.
I just found PN magazine at Barnes and Noble and it looks to be a nice companion to my new venture. I'm impressed with its circulation and it's surprisingly down to earth. Looking forward to the podcasts too.
Here's my starting book list:
All Things Shining: Reading the Western Classics to Find Meaning in a Secular Age (Kelly)
A Brief History of Thought: A Philosophical Guide to Living (Ferry)
The Story of Philosophy: The Lives and Opinions of the World's Greatest Philosophers (Durant)
The History of Western Philosophy (Russell)
The Closing of the Western Mind: The Rise of Faith and the Fall of Reason
The Cave and the Light: Plato Versus Aristotle, and the Struggle for the Soul of Western Civilization
Thanks for reading!
