angrysoba
Greetings to everyone!
I once earned myself a BA in philosophy and was particularly interested in epistemology. Hume and Berkeley were my favourites back in those days. These days I am mostly interested in linguistics and I'm studying an MA in a related field, so my main philosophical interests are Austin, Searle, Grice and Wittgenstein.
I'm originally from England but now live in Japan.
That'll do for now.

Hello angrysoba, some of the people you will meet here are mental.
That'll do for now.

Nothing like making a new forum member welcome. Is it?
Welcome angrysoba. I daren't ask what the "sob" in your username stands for. I hope you enjoy the forum.
This forum is a home where the buffalo roam, and the deer and the antelope play. (At least, that is one possible explanation for the amount of "droppings" you can find here). I wouldn't say that "never is heard a discouraging word", but you can sometimes hear encouraging ones as well.

Nor, I think would the song. As I remember it's "seldom is heard a discouraging word" and even that's stretching it.RickLewis wrote: I wouldn't say that "never is heard a discouraging word",
Yes, yes, it's a bit rich for me to complain!
Re: angrysoba
Hi everyone again.
Are you not a solipsist too?
I'm looking forward to the robust banter that we philosophers are famous for.
Now, if you'll excuse me I have a back to pat...
Well, of course it is. I am a solipsist, you see, so it really is all about me...me...me!Bill Willtrack wrote:Oh...so it's all about me...me...me...me

The two are not mutually exclusive, are they?Bill Willtrack wrote:In your case it's not, Greetings to everyone!, it's Patting myself on the back!
Presumably you mean that I have an enviable level of education which I have yet to put to good use. Hmmm...I cannot deny it. Please direct me to the self-help boards. I would find my own way, of course, if I weren't so damnably helpless, and if I wasn't I probably wouldn't need the self-help. Oh the paradoxes of life!Bill Willtrack wrote:You wasted your education.
Thank you! Much appreciated.uwot wrote:Hello angrysoba, some of the people you will meet here are mental.

S.O.B are the first three letters of "soba", a particular kind of noodle from Japan. You can of course ask, but I am not entirely sure what the answer is.RickLewis wrote:Nothing like making a new forum member welcome. Is it?

Thanks. And don't worry, I have a pretty thick skin.

I like the way you turn a phrase.
Well done.

No one else is important...angrysoba wrote:...my main philosophical interests are Austin, Searle, Grice and Wittgenstein.
Except maybe Davidson?
