Surely they must have realised? Or is that Aussie low-brow humour? My father had a girl in his class at school called Chlorine. Her parents probably just thought it sounded nice :?
This was my school in England. He was a dark-skinned chap, so I think in his parents defence they were possibly from oversees, and English a second language.

A mature and intelligent man of my acquaintance named his son Brian Orville, never considering initials.
You can't anticipate everything people will think of - especially schoolboys.
