Ya think ? :)

AS: Thanks for giving me a chuckle. This happens so often to me you would not even know. I just have so much trouble with language....I never say the right thing in the right way I mean it!

It seems, to me, that you are very confident in what and how you think - you express some very deep and complex thoughts extremely well. All that and a wonderful sense of humour too :D

Aw thanks...That is an extremely appreciated compliment! :)

SGR is also missing.

I remember a picture of his daughter, some time ago, on which she was not very cheerful, whereas the father was smiling nicely in the background.
And someone asked: Did she see England play ?

I saw today in a newspaper a picture of the Prime Minister in a happy mood and Mrs Merkel dissappointed.

Congratulations to all English football fans ! :D

I don't think many Spurs fans feel that way.

I assume that Chelsea is an English team. It sounds English to me. A little bit like Cheshire or Chichester.

Are Spurs a football team from Scotland ?

No. Chelsea and Spurs (Tottenham Hotspur) are London teams.

As Thundril said, Spurs are Tottenham Hotspur and London rivals of Chelsea but in this case the real problem is that Tottenham would have qualified for next year's Champions League if Chelsea had lost.

Most Scots treat the English national team as rivals but not English club teams and personally I'll pretty much support any English team playing in Europe, as long as they're not playing a Scottish team (which hasn't been too much of a problem as of late  )

Does that have anything to do with the fact that so many of the best players (and managers) in the English club teams have come from Scotland?

Possibly as we seem to have lot more success with manager than players these days but I think it's because there's a long tradition of Scottish players plying their trade in England and vice versa and because there is a very high exposure to English football on Scottish television. When I was a kid everyone had an English team they claimed to support and I suspect not much has changed. Nowadays when I overhear my eight year old son and his friends talking about football they often talk about English players or players playing in England.

Your showing your age :P

Long before my time but, as a boy devouring statistics, I was always impressed by the fact that Ian St John scored the fastest hat-trick in Scottish football when he put 3 past Hibernian in two-and-a-half minutes in 1959 while playing for Motherwell (my home team) so he always retained a place in my heart even though he retired when I was 5.

A very interesting thread re 'missing people' :)

I'm pretty convinced that most have not strayed so very far away...but even then, so what ? I've noticed some harking back to the apparent 'good ole golden days' of PN - isn't it healthier to promote and develop the 'new' ? Make newcomers welcome by First Appearances - a re-think of the 'Welcome' message for starters...and a sense that they will not be ridiculed for trying out ideas 'new' to them, perhaps 'old hat' to others.

Back to topic...
( and copied from my 'Introduction' post today )

As a result of technical 'relaunch' problems, it suited me to change my 'name' to marjoramblues

Previously known by some as 'mhoraine'...I took the opportunity of starting afresh - no particular 'friends' or 'foes' - just to see...but remained 'me' all the time...

Also, someone once said that they would recognise me anywhere by my syntax - is that even possible?

Twas interesting, but now glad to set things straight

M.

PS Have to admit, I did appreciate AS for missing me, and felt a slight twinge of guilt, sorry 'bout that
- and yes, AS, you darn well know that you would be terribly missed

Hi M....I kinda had the feeling but I was trying to respect your privacy. Anyway, I don't know anything about 'syntax' but I do know you kinda gave me a hint before in this thread, i think, when you said something about coming back under another name. But really, you have a way of speaking that makes me think you are highly educated and perhaps maybe a writer...or famous in some cool way...like a cult fav or something...I would like to think you are a woman...and that you crack yourself up sometimes. To me you have the ability to soar where the wind takes you and can find a friend anywhere. I think of you like Mary Poppin's...not that I think you are a nanny or of the same temperament...but that you are most welcome where ever and whenever you should happen to land be it forum or real life home of the people you grace with your presence. No one feels abandoned by you...only happy to have had the pleasure to know you. What I want to know it there a secret evil side to you? Sometimes I feel you hint around that there is....

LOL...my response above reminds me of the time we made silly guesses about other peoples personalities with Non Sum and what's his name...Pete? Philosophicalpete? and then that other chick with the airplane with Barbie...can't remember her name...and of course others. Do you remember that thread? It was hilarious.

I kinda had the feeling that you knew that I knew that you knew that I was that Mary Poppins, complete with brolly and bag :)
Your vivid imagination soars higher than I ever could.
I can vaguely recall the thread you mention, but not sure that I would ever participate in anything quite so silly :P
